FAJR REMINDER: IS YOUR GHUSL VALID? By: Umm Affān Ṣafar 16, 1448 (31-July-2026) For Ghusl (i.e., ritual washing of the entire body to attain purification after major impurity) to be valid, two essential conditions must be fulfilled: 1. Intention (Niyyah) Every act of worship begins with intention. It is the intention that distinguishes an act of Ghusl performed for purification from an ordinary bath. Before beginning Ghusl, make the intention in your heart to remove the state of major impurity so that you can perform acts of worship such as Ṣalāh. Since intention is an action of the heart, there is no need to verbalize it, as the Prophet (ﷺ) never did so. 2. Water must reach every part of the body This is the second essential requirement for a valid Ghusl. Everything beyond these two essentials is from the Sunnah and earns additional reward.
