 🔺 FAJR REMINDER: UTTERING THE INTENTION FOR ṢALĀH 🔺 Jumādā al-‘Ūlā 5, 1448 AH (16 October 2026) Did the Prophet (ﷺ) instruct us to verbalise our intention aloud before Ṣalāh? There is no authentic evidence establishing a specific verbal formula, such as “I intend to pray four rak‘ahs of ‘Asr,” as a prescribed requirement before beginning the prayer. When teaching the Companions how to pray, the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Pray as you have seen me praying.” 📚 Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī; Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim. Yet, no authentic report establishes that he instructed them to announce their intentions verbally before Ṣalāh. 🌿 WHERE DOES NIYYAH (INTENTION) RESIDE? The place of intention is the heart. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Actions are judged by intentions.” 📚 Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1; Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1907.   🔺 ṢALĀT AL-JANĀZAH ACCORDING TO THE SUNNAH 🔺 A Step-by-Step Guide to the Muslim Funeral Prayer بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ WHAT IS ṢALĀT AL-JANĀZAH? Ṣalāt al-Janāzah is the funeral prayer offered for a deceased Muslim. It is Farḍ Kifāyah (a communal obligation). A believer must never allow the apparent strength or advantage of an opponent to weaken their trust in ALLĀH Azzawajal. Consider the encounter between Prophet Mūsā عليه السلام and Fir‘awn. Fir‘awn possessed political power, commanded a formidable kingdom, controlled an army, and persecuted the Banī Isrā’īl. He believed his worldly authority made him invincible. Yet, ALLĀH commanded Prophet Mūsā عليه السلام to lead his people out of Egypt. When Fir‘awn and his army pursued them, the Banī Isrā’īl found themselves trapped between the sea ahead and the enemy approaching from behind. By ordinary human reasoning, escape seemed impossible. LET'S MAXIMISE OUR REWARDS THROUGH OUR GOOD DEEDS بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ Allāh ʿAzza wa Jall says: “O you who believe! Do your duty to Allāh and fear Him. And seek the means of approach to Him, and strive hard in His Cause (as much as you can), so that you may be successful.” 📖 Qur’ān, Sūrah Al-Mā’idah (5:35) This verse reminds us of the importance of Taqwā, seeking nearness to Allāh through the means He has prescribed, and striving diligently in His obedience. Among the ways of seeking nearness to Him is performing righteous deeds sincerely for His sake. We can also use our righteous deeds as a means of Tawassul when making Duʿā, as demonstrated in the authentic narration of the three men trapped in a cave who supplicated to Allāh by mentioning their sincere good deeds.
