Days in DhulHijah
[[-4th Outing-]]------------------
بسم الله الرحمان الرجيم
Dear servant of Allah, listen carefully. The first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are almost here. Just like the last ten nights of Ramadan, these ten days are packed with blessings. Crammed with rewards! We cannot, we must not, miss out on a single one.
Conversely,
Doing wrong in these days – especially hurting people – increases the degree of sin more than the same sin in other months. So guard your mouth. Guard your hands. Don't waste these precious days on arguments, backbiting, or hurting anyone.
Now,
Let me tell you about one of the biggest goodies you can grab: The Sacrifice (Udhiyyah/ Layyah).
What is it?
On Eid al-Adha (the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah) and the three days after (11th, 12th, 13th), we sacrifice an animal for Allah's sake. This is an emphasized Sunnah for both men AND women. Don't think it's only for men. No. A woman can sacrifice for herself and her household too.
Why is it so special?
The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to sacrifice two horned rams every year. One for himself and his family. And the other ram? He said: "This is on behalf of those who did not sacrifice from my Ummah." 📚(At-Tirmidhi)
Subhanallah!
He thought of us – his followers – even in his sacrifice.
What is the least you can do?
The least you should sacrifice is one goat (or sheep or ram). And that one goat is enough for you and your whole family.
In the time of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), a man would sacrifice one sheep for himself and his household. They would eat from it and feed others. Yes, just one sheep for the whole family.
What if you want to share?
It is allowed for seven families (or seven people) to share in one cow or one camel. The Prophet said: "A cow is shared between seven, and a camel is shared between seven." 📚(Abu Dawud)
When do you do it?
You can sacrifice on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah (the first day of Eid) or on the 11th, 12th, or 13th. Any of these four days is fine. But you must do it every year – not just once in a lifetime (if you have the capability).
Very important warning:
Do NOT slaughter before the Eid prayer. The Prophet Muhammad peace and blessings be upon him said: Whoever slaughters before the Eid prayer, his sacrifice is not counted. It is just meat for his family. So wait until AFTER the Eid prayer. Yes.
Servants of Allah!
These ten days are a golden highway to Allah's mercy. Don't walk away empty-handed. Grab the goodie of sacrifice. Feed the poor. Help the Muslim orphans and widows. Please your Lord. And earn the reward that the Prophet himself wished for his Ummah.
To be continued..
