FAJR REMINDER: THE NEED TO MARRY AGAIN

Dhū al-Qa'dah 21, 1447 (9-May-2026)
The period in which Sawdah Bint Zam’ah Ibn Qays (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anha) lost her husband was also the same time our mother Khadījah Bint Khuwaylid (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anha) passed away. As a result, the Prophet (ﷺ) was left without a wife while also having children under his care.
Among the noble female companions was Khawlah Bint Ḥakīm (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anha), a righteous woman who noticed the hardship the Prophet (ﷺ) was experiencing due to the absence of a wife in his household. This reflects the kind of compassionate society the Prophet (ﷺ) nurtured—a community in which people genuinely cared for one another and paid attention to each other’s needs. The Prophet (ﷺ) once taught them this beautiful lesson: “Verily, the believers are like bricks of a building, each part strengthening the other,” and the Prophet clasped his fingers together. [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 481, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2585]
Khawlah (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anha) understood the need for someone who could help fill the void left in the Prophet’s household after the death of Khadījah (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anha). She therefore approached the Prophet (ﷺ) regarding marriage.
Our mother Ā’ishah (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anha) narrated that Khawlah Bint Ḥakīm (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anha), the wife of ‘Uthmān Ibn Maẓ’ūn (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anhu) asked: “O Messenger of Allāh, why can’t you marry?” Then he (ﷺ) said, “Who do I marry?” She said, “You may marry a virgin or a divorcee.” He asked, “Who is this virgin and this divorcee?” She said, “As concerns the virgin, it is the daughter of the person you like most—Ā’ishah Bint Abī Bakr and concerning the divorcee, it is Sawdah Bint Zam’ah, she has believed in you and followed you.” He said, “Mention my name to them.”
Thereafter, the Prophet (ﷺ) married—meaning he conducted the marriage contract with—both Ā’ishah and Sawdah around the same period. Allāhu Akbar! Indeed, the Prophet (ﷺ) remains the finest example for this Ummah in his character, compassion, and dealings.
I beseech Allāh to shower His abundant Mercy upon him and upon all his noble wives. Aameen.
