HĀJAR‘S SACRIFICE AND PERSEVERANCE

FAJR REMINDER: HĀJAR‘S SACRIFICE AND PERSEVERANCE

By: Umm Affān

Dhū al-Ḥijjah 10, 1447 (27-May-2026)

Prophet Ibrāhīm (‘Alayhi Salām) was eventually blessed with a child through his second wife, Hājar (‘Alayha Salām), after many years of waiting. The birth of Ismā'īl (‘Alayhi Salām) filled their hearts with immense joy and gratitude to Allāh for such a noble blessing. Yet, while they rejoiced, they had no idea that a great test was approaching—one that would require Prophet Ibrāhīm (‘Alayhi Salām) to make a painful decision concerning his beloved family. What was this decision, and what would become of the innocent child resting in the arms of his caring mother, Hājar?

After some time, Sarah (‘Alayha Salām) became jealous of Hājar and Ismā'īl. By the Command and Permission of Allāh, Prophet Ibrāhīm (‘Alayhi Salām) took Hājar and her infant son to the land of Hijaz—Makkah—a barren valley surrounded by mountains, with no people, vegetation, food, or water. It was a place with no visible sign of life. When they arrived there, Allāh commanded Prophet Ibrāhīm (‘Alayhi Salām) to leave them behind and continue his journey alone. This was another tremendous trial for Prophet Ibrāhīm (‘Alayhi Salām).

This event clearly reflects the depth of Prophet Ibrāhīm’s Eemān and submission to Allāh. Imagine leaving one’s wife and only child in an empty desert where there was no human support or provision. He left them near the area of Zamzam, under the shade of a tree close to Safa and Marwa, with only a small amount of food and water. Indeed, this was a severe test for the household of Prophet Ibrāhīm (‘Alayhi Salām).

When Prophet Ibrāhīm (‘Alayhi Salām) began to depart, Hājar called out to him: “O Ibrāhīm! Where are you going, leaving us in this valley where there is no one nor is there anything else around (a barren land)?” She repeatedly asked (him), but he did not turn (to respond). She then asked him: “Did Allāh command you to do so?” He said: “Yes.” She said: “Then He will not leave us (to be lost).” [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 3364]

What remarkable faith Hājar possessed! The moment she realised it was a command from Allāh, her heart became content and steadfast. She understood that Allāh, Who commanded Prophet Ibrāhīm (‘Alayhi Salām), would never abandon them without wisdom and mercy. Although she could not yet see the outcome, she trusted completely that whenever Allāh places His servants in a difficult situation, He also provides guidance and relief through it.

With a heavy heart, Prophet Ibrāhīm (‘Alayhi Salām) continued his journey in obedience to his Lord. When he reached a distance where he could neither see them nor hear the cries of Ismā'īl, he turned towards the direction of the Ka'bah and sincerely supplicated to Allāh: “O our Lord! I have made some of my offspring to dwell in an uncultivable valley by Your Sacred House (the Ka’bah at Makkah); in order, O our Lord, that they may perform Aṣ-Ṣalāt, so fill some hearts among men with love towards them, and (O Allāh) provide them with fruits so that they may give thanks.”

Allāhu Akbar! The story of Prophet Ibrāhīm’s family is filled with priceless lessons of faith, submission, sacrifice, patience, and love for Allāh.

‘Eid Mubārak! I beseech Allāh to accept our ‘Ibādāt, forgive our shortcomings, and bless us with peace, Barakah, good health, and steadfastness upon the truth. Aameen.

NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yawm Arba'a. 29th day of Shaw'waal, 1445AH (Wednesday 8th May 2024). *_NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH_*. BismilLah.  Even though feelings of Panic, stress/worries etc are part of life, they must not reduce our acts of worship or trust in ALLAH. The more a man turns to ALLAH and focuses on HIM, the more he will feel a sense of peace and comfort, to an extent that no one knows except ALLAH. Hence those who know ALLAH, are close to HIM and fear HIM are the happiest of people, to such an extent that one of them said, in a well-known expression: “If the kings and the sons of kings knew what joy we have, they would fight us for it with the sword.” This is also what is expressed in the Qur’an, as ALLAH says: “Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him ALLAH will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and ALLAH will ...

HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER. Yaum Al-Khamis, 22nd day of Jumaadal Uula 1447AH, Thursday, 13th November, 2025.  *_HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN_*. BismilLah.  When we help our brothers and sisters in Islam, in reality, we are helping ourselves. The Messenger of ALLAH (S.A.W) said: He who relieves the hardship of a believer in this world, ALLAH Azzawajallah will relieve his hardship on the Day of Judgment. He who makes easy what is difficult, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will make it easy for him in the world and the hereafter. He who conceals the faults of a Muslim, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will conceal his faults in this ALLAH Azzawajallah world and the Hereafter, for ALLAH helps the servant as long as he helps his brother. Source: Ṣaḥīḥ "Muslim 2699. AlhamdulilLah.  With this I hope with immediate effect we will all strive to help each other in any possible way such as making dua for each other, supporting our relatives and those in need in ou...

BEST TIME FOR TAHAJJUD

*BEST TIME FOR TAHAJJUD* It is best to delay this prayer to the last third portion of the night. Abu Hurairah reports that the Messenger of Allah said: "Our Lord descends to the lowest heaven during the last third of the night, inquiring: 'Who will call on Me so that I may respond to him? Who is asking something of Me so I may give it to him? Who is asking for My forgiveness so I may forgive him?"' This is related by the group. 'Amr ibn Abasah reports that he heard the Prophet say: "The closest that a slave comes to his Lord is during the middle of the latter portion of the night. If you can be among those who remember Allah, the Exalted One, at that time then do so." This is related by al-Hakim who grades it sahih according to Muslim's standards, and at-Tirmizhi calls it hasan sahih. AnNasa'i and Ibn Khuzaimah also recorded it. Abu Muslim asked Abu Zharr: "Which late-night prayer is the best?" He said: "I asked the Messenger of A...
