FAJR REMINDER: ITS DEPTH AND VASTNESS

If you wonder how vast and deep Hell is, then know that it is unimaginably enormous and extremely deep. One clear indication of this is that it will contain all the disbelievers and sinful people from the beginning of creation until the end of time, yet it still will not be full. Anas (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anhu) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “The people will be thrown into the (Hell) Fire and it will say: ‘Are there any more (to come)?’ (50.30) till Allāh puts His Foot over it and it will say, ‘Qati! Qati! (Enough Enough!)!’” [Ṣaḥiḥ al-Bukhārī 4848]
From this Ḥadīth, we affirm that Allāh has a Foot in a manner that befits His Majesty. However, we do not ask how it is or compare it to the creation. Rather, we believe in it as it has come and leave the knowledge of its reality to Allāh.
Furthermore, Abū Hurayrah (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anhu) narrated: We were in the company of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) when we heard a bang. Thereupon Allāh’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: “Do you know what this (sound) is?” We said: “Allāh and His Messenger know better.” He (ﷺ) said: “That is a stone which was thrown into Hell seventy years before and it has just reached its bottom.” [Ṣaḥiḥ Muslim 2844]
These narrations show the terrifying size and depth of Hell, and they also point to the severity of its punishment. Hell is not something to joke about or treat lightly. It is not something a person should deny or ignore, thinking it is unreal. It will be of no benefit for a person to reject its existence in this world only to discover its reality in the Hereafter, because there will be no opportunity then to return and correct one’s mistakes. Therefore, we should strive hard to stay away from every act that may lead one into it.
I beseech Allāh to protect and save us from Hell-fire. Aameen.
