Zakat ul fitr and the importance of giving it out.
Alhamdulillah, Zakat-ul-Fitr means the charity for breaking the fast.
It is obligatory to give out before one goes to the Eid prayer.
The head of the family can give it out in the name of the other members of the father.
So for every member of the family, the quantity of rice or maize to be given is 3.7 kg.
That is Mudd and 4mudd is equal to one sa'a.
Zakat-ul-fitr is not to be given money but rather food.
As the time of rasulullaah salla Allahu alayhi wasalam, the Zakatul Fitr is given in the form of food not money.
As reported in Hadith,
Narrated Ibn `Umar:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) made it incumbent on all the slave or free Muslims, male or female, to pay one Sa' of dates or barley as Zakat-ul-Fitr.
Sahih al-Bukhari 1504
Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar:
The Prophet (ﷺ) ordered (Muslims) to give one Sa' of dates or one Sa' of barley as Zakat-ul-Fitr The people rewarded two Mudds of wheat as equal to that.
Sahih al-Bukhari 1507.
Ibn 'Umar said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prescribed the Sadaqa of Ramadan (Sadaqat-al-Fitr) one sa' ofdates or one sa' of barley for every free man or a slave, male or female, and then the people equalised (one sa' of dates or barley) with half a sa' of wheat.
Sahih Muslim 984 c.
Zakat-ul- fitr is obligatory except if one has no means to give it out.
Zakat-ul- Fitr is not given after Eid ul fitr but rather given before Eid.
Anyone who gives it out after Eid prayer has not given Zakatul fitr rather a a swadaqah.
May Allah grants us wealth to give it out. Aamiin
