If I have a cold (runny nose, sneezing, stuffiness), should I break my fast?, How severe an illness must be, in order to warrant breaking the fast in Ramadhan?
DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yaum ath-thalaatha, 9th day of Sha'abaan (Tuesday 23rd March 2021).
*_If I have a cold (runny nose, sneezing, stuffiness), should I break my fast?, How severe an illness must be, in order to warrant breaking the fast in Ramadhan?_* Bismillah.
Let's remind ourselves that fasting is not a burden on us but a given opportunity to wipe our sins and be so called born again Muslim. You are allowed to break your fast only if fasting makes your illness worse or prevents you from taking medication that you must take for the treatment. In the case of the common cold, you are not allowed to break your fast unless the cold is unbearable for you, and you are not able to function properly without taking medication.
If you think this is the case, then you should break your fast, for ALLAH says to the nearest meaning, "Hence, whoever of you lives to see this month (i.e. Ramadhan) shall fast throughout it; but he or she that is ill, or on a journey struggling to keep your fast should break your fast, but should fast to cover your missed days after Ramadan. ALLAH wills that you shall have ease and does not wish you to suffer hardship; but [HE desires] that you complete the number [of days required] and that you glorify ALLAH for HIS having guided you aright and that you render your thanks [unto HIM]." (Qur'an 2: 185). AlhamdulilLah. Always remember fasting in Ramadan is a special favour from ALLAH to you so take advantage of it and never break your fast with any bad excuse. Never break your fasting because you are travelling unless you face difficulties due to walking for too long etc.
*_May ALLAH keep guiding us all and ease our ways in this approaching blessed month and beyond_*. Aameen.
