Today’s Beautiful Hadith is about Burials
Yahya (RA) related to me from Malik (RA) that Yahya ibn Said (RA) that he had heard that when Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (RA) was ill he asked A'isha (RA), "How many shrouds did the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, have?" and she replied, "Three pure white cotton garments." Abu Bakr said, "Take this garment (a garment he was wearing on which red clay or saffron had fallen) and wash it. Then shroud me in it with two other garments." A'isha said, "Why's that?", and Abu Bakr replied, "The living have greater need of the new than the dead. This is only for the body fluids that come out as the body decays."
(Muwatta Malik, Book 16, Hadith 528)
Life is temporary. Death is all around us and should remind us to make the most of every moment we have. Don't be sad when you think of death, use the finite nature of life to inspire you to do more with the time you have been blessed with. Honour the dead by ensuring they have a proper burial, pray over them and fulfilling the responsibility due upon them. May Allah grant the pious who have died a light and airy grave, envelope them in the silks of Jannah, where they sleep peacefully awaiting their entrance into Jannah on the day of resurrection. Ameen.
