Dhikr is Mashru’ anytime and everywhere
Q: One is required to make Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah) at any time or place, except in places in which it is prohibited to make Dhikr, such as the bathroom. Should one completely quit Dhikr in the bathroom even with his heart? A.N. Riyadh
A: Dhikr of the heart is Mashru’ (Islamically acceptable) at any time and in every place, in the bathroom or elsewhere. However, the Makruh (reprehensible) in the bathroom is to make Dhikr with the tongue, out of showing due veneration to Allah (سبحانه), except for the Tasmiyah (saying, "Bismillah [In the Name of Allah]") when performing Wudu' (ablution), which one should pronounce if it is not possible for him to perform Wudu' outside the bathroom. It is Wajib (obligatory) according to some scholars and a stressed Sunnah according to the Jumhur (dominant majority of scholars).
