*THE PROPHET'S LINEAGE (BLESSINGS AND PEACE BE UPON HIM)*
The lineage of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Blessings and Peace be upon him) divides into three divisions:
Biographers and genealogists agree upon the first division from which the Prophet's ancestry begins and ends with 'Adnān. As for the second division, Scholars differ over it greatly. It is the division which follows 'Adnān and ends with Abraham. Some scholars maintain that it is not permissible to report it while others made this permissible and recounted it. But they differed over the number of forefathers and their names. There were about thirty statements in this regard. However, all Scholars agree unanimously that 'Adnān is among the pure descendants of Ishmael.
As regards the third division, it comes after Abraham and ends with Ādam. We depend considerably on the transmitted texts of Jews and Christians regarding the details of this division. As we never doubt the reliability of such texts.
Here are the three divisions of the Prophet's in details:
1. Muhammad Ibn 'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abdul-Mutallib (Shaiba) Ibn Hāshim ('Amr) Ibn 'Abdu Manāf (Al-Mughīra) Ibn Qusayy (Zaid) Ibn Kilāb Ibn Murra Ibn Kā'ab Ibn Luhayy Ibn Ghālib Ibn Fihr (who is called Quraish and to whom the tribe is affiliated) Ibn Mālik Ibnun-Nadr (Qais) Ibn Kināna Ibn Khuzaima Ibn Mudrika (Amir) Ibn Ilyās Ibn Mudar Ibn Nizār Ma'ad Ibn 'Adnān.
2. What is above 'Adnān. 'Adnān Ibn Udad Ibnul-Hamaysa' Ibn Salāmān Ibn 'Aws Ibn Bouz Ibn Qamwāl Ibn Abou Ibn 'Uwām Ibn Nāshid Ibn Hazā Ibn Bildās Ibn Yadlāf Ibn Tābikh Ibn Jāhim Ibn Nāhish Ibn Mākhy Ibn 'Ayd Ibn 'Abqar Ibn 'Ubayd Ibnud-Du'ā Ibn Hamdān Ibn Sanbar Ibn Yathriby Ibn Yahzun Ibn Yalhun Ibn Ar'awā Ibn 'Ayd Ibn Daishān Ibn 'Aysar Ibn Afnād Ibn Ayhām Ibn Muqsir Ibn Nāhis Ibn Zārih Ibn Samiy Ibn Mazy Ibne 'Awdah Ibn 'Arām Ibn Qaydār Ibn Ishmael Ibn Abraham.
3. What is above Abraham. Abraham Ibn Tārih (Azar) Ibn Nāhour Ibn sarough or Sarou'a Ibn Rā'u Ibn Fālakh Ibn 'Abir Ibn Shālakh Ibn Arfakhshad Ibn Sam Ibn Noah Ibn Lāmik Ibn Matoushalakh Ibn Akhnoukh who is said to be prophet Idris (A.S.) Ibn Yard Ibn Mahlā'eel Ibn Qainā Ibn Anoush Ibn Shīs Ibn Ādam.
