*BE CONTENT, FOR EVERYTHING HAPPENS BY THE WILL AND DECREE OF ALLĀH*

One of the things that Dale Carnegie mentions instead of belief in the divine will and decree (al-qadā' wal-qadar) is that man expects the one who is stricken by a calamity to freeze and not react to that calamity, like a buffalo or a tree trunk. He may be excused for that, because he did not find out the remedy that we Muslims have access to. Listen to him when he said:
"Once I refused to accept something inevitable with which I was faced, but I was a fool. I objected, went mad, got angry, and turned my nights into a hell of insomnia. After a year of psychological torment, I gave in to the inevitable; I had known from the outset that there was no way to change it and it would have been more appropriate if I had done what the poet Walt Whitman suggests:
'How much better it is to face darkness, storms, hunger, calamities, blame and rebuke as animals and tree trunks do.'
I spent twelve years of my life with cattle, and I never saw a cow get upset because the grazing land was on fire, or because it was dry due to lack of rain, or because her mate the bull was approaching another cow. Animals always face darkness, storms and starvation in a calm and tranquil manner; it is very rare for an animal to have a nervous breakdown or a stomach ulcer!"
