*THINK ABOUT THIS...*
At the end of a long day of fasting, there is a meal. It doesn't matter how modest that meal is—even if it's just a cup of water and dates.
You spent hours working, in the sun, running back and forth on your errands, entertaining your kids, all while your throat was parched and your body weak.
And then the moment finally came when you could take that cold sip of water…there is pure joy in that moment when your energy is suddenly back, and your mood suddenly lifted.
Similarly, our existence in this world is short, like a single day. A day filled with ups and downs, with anxieties, with thirst and hunger, pain and weakness. But it will come to an end just like the day of fasting comes to an end.
The foods you smelled throughout the day, the sounds of people slurping water next to you – none of that deterred you from your goal. You held yourself together and kept your desires at bay knowing that you would be rewarded for your patience.
If you could wait all day to lift that glass of water to your lips and be so satisfied by it, then surely you are strong enough and patient enough to wait through the pain and difficulties of this world.
Then that final forever-thirst-quenching sip of Al-Kauthar will be far better than anything you've ever tasted.
And that joy will be permanent.
Prophet Muhammad (saw) said, "...The fasting person has two occasions for joy, one when he breaks his fast because of his breaking it and the other when he meets His Lord because of the reward for his fast."
And Allah (swt) says, "And no soul knows what has been hidden for them of comfort for eyes as reward for what they used to do" (32:17).
