*Let's Change Our Mindsets About Marriage*

Assaalam Alaikum brothers and sisters in islam. I want to share something with you. There is a trend going on on social media. A brother would find those unsuspecting women, who are vulnerable, they befriend the sisters. After promises of love, bounty and marriage. They tell the sisters to marry them, But over the phone. At first the sister would disagree bcos it doesn't make sense. Then days after, the brothers would call her and say there is one sheikh on phone and he likes to talk to her. This fake sheikh would tell her, look sister, in islam all you need is a Maher to get married, then a witness. As a sheikh, i can be your witness both of you, and angels will also bear witness. So if the sister is naive, she will agree to name her maher and the sheikh will make the nikah thereafter. If she is smart and religious, she calls it off.

Next, the brother will fly an aeroplane from wherever he is. He would come and lodge a hotel and take her there. The sister being married to him lets him in. After days of letting him in or even months. The brother would travel back with the intention to return. After a while the sister become worried, eventually the brother would say, look, you are divorced. Lots of our sisters out there are victim of this scam. How do I know? I know bcos in 2019 alone, i received complaints from 7 sisters, same strategy, same story, same aftermath.

So let me advice you sisters. Marriage is not a TV game or movie where you take things for granted. Allah taalah has made marriage so big that it has a lot of rules and regulations governing it. Marriage is only considered valid if it has fulfilled the following:

1- Supervision and testimony that terms are accepted. All guardians accept. Bride and broom accepted. 

2- Consensual agreement to marry:  No girl/boy or woman/man can be wed against her/his will.

3- Announcement: Marriages, especially the ceremony of nikah is performed in order to announce the marriage. Therefore, nikah must be announced to everybody. More like witness. 

4- Mehr : Legal Share of Bride is given to the bride by the groom. It is not a condition for the nikah to be valid, but the right of mehr arises as a natural result of the nikah for the bride.

Thus, any marriage which doesn't fulfil all the above conditions is therefore not valid in islam. If such men come to you, boycott them and find a real person who is ready to respect and honor your dignity. Anyone, who wishes to marry you secretly does not respect and value you.
