*Part 38*
*VARIOUS WAYS OF OPPOSING THE CALLING OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD (Blessings and Peace be upon him) BY THE UNBELIEVERS continues*
*3. DETERRING PEOPLE FROM LISTENING TO THE QUR-ĀN AND COMPARING IT TO THE MYTHS OF PREVIOUS NATIONS*
Polytheists tried to prevent people from listening to the Qur-ān and the calling of Islam in every possible way. They were annoying people and stirring up riot everywhere. Add to this their provocative singing and tumultuous amusement which they reverted to whenever they saw the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) getting ready for the calling or praying and reciting the Glorious Qur-ān. Allāh says:
Surah Fussilat, Verse 26:
وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَا تَسْمَعُوا لِهَٰذَا الْقُرْآنِ وَالْغَوْا فِيهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَغْلِبُونَ
And those who disbelieve say: "Listen not to this Qur-ān, and make noise in the midst of its (recitation) that you may overcome."
As a result, the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) did not manage to recite the Qur-ān at their places of meeting but in the late months of the fifth year of Prophethood. This also happened by surprise.
An-Nadr Ibnul-Hārith, one of the wicked Quraishites, went to Hirah learned the dialogue of Persians kings and those of Rustom Spendyar. Whenever the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) convened an assembly to preach Muslims, An-Nadr followed him saying: "I swear by Allāh that Muhammad does not speak better than me." Then he talks about Persian kings and Rustom saying: "What makes Muhammad better than me in speech?"
The narration of Ibn 'Abbās indicate that An-Nadr bought songstresses (chanteuses). Upon knowing that someone would embrace Islam, he set a chanteuse upon him to provide him with foods and wine and song for him till he has no tendency to Islam. Regarding this, Allāh says:
Surah Luqman, Verse 6:
And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allah, the Verses of the Quran) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire).
*{To be continued In-sha-Allāh (If Allāh Wills)...}*
*"And keep reminding, because reminding benefits the believers."* (Qur'an 51:55)
