﷽
*Surah Al-Baqara, Verse 47:*
O Children of Israel! Remember My Favour which I bestowed upon you and that I preferred you to the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns) (of your time period, in the past).
*COMMENTARY*
These words are recapitulated from verse 40 (Sūra Al-Baqarah), which introduced a general account of Allāh's favours to Israel; now we are introduced to a particular account of incidents to Israel's history. Each incident is introduced by the Arabic words "Iz," which is indicated in the translation by "Remember."
﷽
*Surah Al-Baqara, Verse 48:*
And fear a Day (of Judgement) when a person shall not avail another, nor will intercession be accepted from him nor will compensation be taken from him nor will they be helped.
*COMMENTARY*
Before passing to particular incidents, the conclusion is stated. Be on your guard: do not think that special favours exempt you from the personal responsibility of each soul.
