*MUSLIMS ON THEIR WAY TO KHAIBAR*
The Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) marched to Khaibar through a mountain called 'Isr and another named Ash-Sahabaa. Then, he went forward with the army till reaching a valley between Khaibar and Ghatafān called Ar-Raji. They encamped there to prevent Ghatafān from helping their alley. When Ghatafān went to help the Jews of Khaibar, they heard uproar and believed that Muslims made a raid on their people. Thus, they back and left their confederate alone.
Afterwards, the Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) called the two guides accompanying him to guide him to the best way leading to Khaibar from north i.e Ash-Shām, so as to prevent the enemies from fleeing and Ghatafān from helping them. One of them said: "O Messenger of Allāh, I will guide you." Upon reaching an intersection, he said: "O Messenger of Allāh, these roads lead to your destination. The Messenger of Allāh (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) asked him about the names of roads and chose the one called Marhab.
SOME INCIDENTS ON THE WAY TO KHAIBAR
1. It has been narrated that Salamah Ibn Al-Akwa said: "We have marched with the Messenger of Allāh (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) to Khaibar at night. Someone said to 'Amir: "Will you not recite to us some of your poetry?" So he began chanting the following:
"O Allāh, if you had not guided us, we would have neither been guided, paid charity nor performed prayers. We wish to devote our lives to You, so forgive our sins and keep us steadfast upon meeting (our enemies). Bestow upon us peace and tranquility. Behold when morning falls with a cry they called upon us to help."
The Messenger of Allāh (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) said: "Who is this driver of camels?" They said: "It is 'Amir." He said: "May Allāh have mercy upon him." A man said: "Thus, he will be martyred; O Messenger of Allāh, would that you have allowed us to benefit ourselves from his life." The Companions had already known that whoever the Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) invoked Allāh's mercy upon him would be martyred.
2. At As-Sahbā, the Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) performed the afternoon prayer, then ordered his Companions to have whatever food they had. Although the food was not enough, the Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) took it and immediately it grew in quantity so that they all ate. Afterwards, he and his Companions rinsed their mouths and observed the evening prayer without making ablution again. They also did the same for the night prayer.
3. Upon coming near to Khaibar, the Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) ordered his Companions to halt and then invoked Allāh, saying: "O Allāh! Lord of the seven heavens and what they harbour beneath, Lord of the seven earth and what lies in their wombs, Lord of devils and whomsoever they have led astray, Lord of wind and what it blows away: we beseech You to grant us the good of this village (Khaibar), the good of its inhabitants and the good that lies in it. We seek refuge with You from the evil of this village, the evil of its inhabitants and the evil that lies in it." Then he said: "Now march in the name of Allāh."
THE MUSLIM ARMY ON THE VICINITY OF KHAIBAR
Because the Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) used not to surprise the enemy by attacking them by night, he stayed the night near Khaibar while its people did not know. After performing the dawn prayer, the Muslims moved to Khaibar. When the enemies saw the Muslim army, they said: "Muhammad has come along with his forces!" Then, they fled to their territory. The Messenger of Allāh (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) said: "Allāh is Greater, Allāh is Greater, Khaibar will face destruction. Khaibar will face destruction. When we descend to their courtyard, evil will be the morning for those who had been warned."
THE FORTRESS OF KHAIBAR
Khaibar was divided into two parts: The first one included five forts; Na'im, As-Sa'b Ibn Mu'ādh, Az-Zubayr Citadel, Ubayy and An-Nazār. The first three forts were located in an area called An-Nattāh, while the other two were located in Ash-Shāq. As for the second part, known as Al-Katibah, it included only three fortresses; Al-Qamus (related to Banu Abu Al-Haqiq of Banu An-Nadir), in addition to Al-Wattir and As-Sulalim. Khaibar included other forts other than the abovementioned eight ones; yet, they were smaller. The battle took place in the first part, while people of the other ones surrendered without fighting.
THE CAMP OF THE MUSLIM ARMY
The Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) had chosen a certain plot of land to serve as the camp of his army. Yet, a Muslim veteran told the Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) that this place was near Nattah fort and suggested that the Muslim army should camp at another place. The Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) accepted his suggestion and shifted to the other place.
