*THE BATTLE OF KHAIBAR continues*
*NEGOTIATIONS*
Ibn Abu Al-Huqaiq went to the Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) and asked for negotiations. The Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) agreed on sparing the blood provided that the Jews evacuate the land and leave behind gold and silver. Ultimately, Khaibar was completely conquered.
However, the treaty was cancelled, because the two sons of Ibn Abu Al-Huqaiq hid a bag full of money and jewellery belonging to Huyayy Ibn Al-Ahtab who carried it with him when the people of An-Nadir were forced out of their land.
Ibn Is'hāq said: "The Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) asked Kināna Ar-Rabi'a about the jewellery of Banu An-Nadir. Yet, he insisted on his denial. A Jew told the Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) that he used to see Kināna wandering about a site of ruins everyday. The Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) threatened to kill Kināna in case of finding the jewellery. After digging the ruins, they found some of the jewellery. The Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) asked him about the remaining, but he was pertinacious. Therefore, the Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) ordered his Companions to kill him.
Ibnul-Qayyim stated that the Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) ordered his Companions to kill the two sons of Ibn Abu Al-Huqaiq. In addition, their sister Safiyah was taken as a captive.
THE DISTRIBUTION OF BOOTIES
The Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) decided to evict the Jews from the land; however, they asked him to let them cultivate it. The Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) agreed, provided that they give the Muslims half the harvest.
The Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) divided the spoils into three thousand and six hundred shares, half of which was distributed among the people who witnessed Al-Hudaibiyya, while the remaining ones were allocated to potential circumstances. The number of the Muslims who witnessed Al-Hudaibiyya was one thousand and four hundred men, two hundred of them were cavalrymen. The cavalryman was given three shares, whereas the footman was granted only one.
Commenting on the spoils, Ibn 'Umar (stated: "We have not eaten our fill except after conquering Khaibar." 'Ā'ishah said: "We have not satisfied our appetite of dates except capturing Khaibar." The Immigrants also managed to return to the supporters what they had previously taken from them.
THE ARRIVAL OF JA'AFAR IBN ABU TĀLIB AND ABU MŪSA AL-ASH'ARY
The Prophet's cousin Ja'afar Ibn Abu Tālib and his Companions, along with Abu Mūsa Al-Ash'ary and his Companion, came to Khaibar.
Abu Mūsa said: "While being in Yemen, we knew that the Muslim army marched to Khaibar. I, along with fifty people, rode a ship which landed us in Abyssinia. We met Ja'afar and his Companions there. We stayed together until the Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) sent an envoy, asking us to come back to Khaibar. When we returned, we found that the Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) conquered Khaibar. He (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) have us a portion of the booty."
When the Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) saw his cousin, he kissed his forehead and expressed his pleasure, saying: "Should I get pleased about conquering Khaibar or receiving Ja'afar?"
They came after the Prophet (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) had dispatched 'Amr Ibn Umayya Ad-Damry to Negus, asking him to send the Muslims back. They were sixteen men, in addition to their women and children. Negus sent them on two boats. The remaining Immigrants had earlier come to Madīnah.
