*Peace be upon you all.*
*He who does nit criticize himself dies from the criticism of others.*
*Meaning: Growing up, as characteristic of childhood period, we used to tease ourselves a lot. In fact, we competed in making fun of ourselves. I used to cry over the things people said about me until one day I discovered a secret. Before anyone said anything about me, I first of all said all the things I knew could be made fun of about me. This really disarmed my play mates. They couldn't not say those things about me anymore and even if they did, it was no news. As for them, my teasing really got into them because they didn't tell themselves or accept the facts about themselves. This practice has lingered on to my adult life. I make fun of myself, so there is hardly anything you can say about me to make me feel sad. I make conscious effort to criticize myself, so it's hard for me to be offended by the same criticism from people. The reality of life is that we all make mistakes in life --whether deliberately or indeliberately, big or small, reversible or irreversible. Being able to laugh at yourself means you accept and celebrate your humanity. It's a mark of humility. The mistakes we make are not as critical as our attitude towards those mistakes. Take yourself seriously but not too seriously. Have a sense of indulgence. Be indulgent.*
