FAJR REMINDER: LIFE ISN’T FOR PLAY

Jumādā al-Ākhirah 23, 1447 (15-December-2025)
How can someone who lacks free time concern themselves with the affairs of this world? Is it possible to be occupied yet still find moments of leisure? By Allāh! Our time in this world is not for trivial pursuits. The main purpose of our existence is to worship our Lord, and understanding this will always keep us focused on the life to come. Allāh states: “Did you think that We had created you in play (without any purpose), and that you would not be brought back to Us?” [Sūrah Al-Mumenoon (23): 115]
O brothers! How do you allocate your time? When you are not engaged in obligatory acts of worship, how do you choose to spend your free time? Ibn ‘Abbās (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anhuma) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “There are two blessings which many people waste: health and free time.” [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 6412]
Regrettably, many people squander their time on entertainment and trivialities. Allāh has said: “And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, for mere play.” [Sūrah Ad-Dukhān (44): 38]
Who wastes their time more than someone who spends it watching movies? Do you believe you are learning from it? If you happen to gain any good from those films, I assure you that you are exposed to far more negativity – including music, dancing, theft, fornication and adultery, associating partners with Allāh, falsehood, and inappropriate comedy, among others.
Moreover, there are many fundamental aspects of being a Muslim that you should know but neglect to learn. If we were to randomly select a hundred Muslims and ask them to mention the five pillars of Islām along with the six articles of faith (as conveyed by the Prophet [ﷺ]), it might be difficult to find even fifty who could do so accurately. This signifies a loss of knowledge and misplaced priorities! Don’t ask me why this should be in Arabic; it's the language of our faith, and there is no frivolity in knowing the pillars of Islām and articles of faith in Arabic.
I beseech Allāh to guide and rectify our affairs. Aameen.
