QUESTIONING IN THE GRAVE

FAJR REMINDER: QUESTIONING IN THE GRAVE

By: Umm ‘Affān

Jumādā al-Ākhirah 26, 1447 (18-December-2025)

The trial in the grave is indeed a challenging one. However, for those who are believers—those with a strong faith in Allāh and a commendable record of good deeds—the process will be less daunting.

When the questioning Angels (Munkar and Nakīr) arrive, a true believer will exhibit their steadfast faith and adherence to the Deen by attempting to perform Ṣalāh. Jābir (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anhu) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “When a dead person is entered into his grave, he is made to imagine that the sun is setting. So he sits up rubbing his eyes, and says (to the two angels), ‘Let me pray.’” [Sunan Ibn Mājah 4272]

Furthermore, regarding the ease with which believers will answer questions in the grave, Al-Barā’ Ibn ‘Āzib (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anhu) relayed that Allāh's Messenger (ﷺ) stated, “When a Muslim is questioned in his grave, he will testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allāh and that Muḥammad is Allāh's Messenger (ﷺ), and that is what is meant by Allāh's Statement: ‘Allāh will keep firm those who believe with a Word that stands firm in this world and in the Hereafter.’” (14:27) [Ṣaḥiḥ al-Bukhārī 4699]

Now, let’s consider the questions that will be posed in the grave. Al-Barā’ Ibn ‘Āzib (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anhu) noted that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Two Angels of severe reprimand then come to the believer and address him abruptly. They make him sit up, and ask him, ‘Who is your Lord?’ He replies, ‘My Lord is Allāh.’ They inquire, ‘What is your Deen?’ He answers, ‘My Deen is Islām.’ They then ask, ‘Who is that man who was sent to you?’ He responds, ‘He is Allāh’s Messenger (ﷺ).’ They question him further, ‘What did you do?’ He replies, ‘I read Allāh’s Book, believed in it, and obeyed it.’ They abruptly repeat their questions, ‘Who is your Lord? What is your Deen? Who is your Prophet?’ He states, ‘My Lord is Allāh, my Deen is Islām, and my Prophet is Muḥammad.’”

He (ﷺ) also described the fate of the nonbeliever upon death: “His spirit will be restored to his body, two angels will come to him, make him sit up and ask him: ‘Who is your Lord?’ He will reply: ‘Alas, alas! I do not know.’ They will continue with the questions: ‘What is your religion?’ He will again state: ‘Alas, alas! I do not know.’ When they ask, ‘Who was the man who was sent on a mission among you?’ he will answer: ‘Alas, alas! I do not know.’ Then a crier will proclaim from Heaven: ‘He has lied, so spread a bed for him from Hell, clothe him from Hell, and open for him a door into Hell. Then some of its heat and pestilential wind will come to him, and his grave will be compressed, so that his ribs will be crushed together.’” [Sunan Abī Dāwūd 4753]

So, are you prepared for the questioning? I beseech Allāh to make our questioning in the grave easier for us. Aameen.

NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yawm Arba'a. 29th day of Shaw'waal, 1445AH (Wednesday 8th May 2024). *_NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH_*. BismilLah.  Even though feelings of Panic, stress/worries etc are part of life, they must not reduce our acts of worship or trust in ALLAH. The more a man turns to ALLAH and focuses on HIM, the more he will feel a sense of peace and comfort, to an extent that no one knows except ALLAH. Hence those who know ALLAH, are close to HIM and fear HIM are the happiest of people, to such an extent that one of them said, in a well-known expression: “If the kings and the sons of kings knew what joy we have, they would fight us for it with the sword.” This is also what is expressed in the Qur’an, as ALLAH says: “Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him ALLAH will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and ALLAH will ...

HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER. Yaum Al-Khamis, 22nd day of Jumaadal Uula 1447AH, Thursday, 13th November, 2025.  *_HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN_*. BismilLah.  When we help our brothers and sisters in Islam, in reality, we are helping ourselves. The Messenger of ALLAH (S.A.W) said: He who relieves the hardship of a believer in this world, ALLAH Azzawajallah will relieve his hardship on the Day of Judgment. He who makes easy what is difficult, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will make it easy for him in the world and the hereafter. He who conceals the faults of a Muslim, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will conceal his faults in this ALLAH Azzawajallah world and the Hereafter, for ALLAH helps the servant as long as he helps his brother. AlhamdulilLah.  With this I hope with immediate effect we will all strive to help each other in any possible way such as making dua for each other, supporting our relatives and those in need in ou...

BEST TIME FOR TAHAJJUD

*BEST TIME FOR TAHAJJUD* It is best to delay this prayer to the last third portion of the night. Abu Hurairah reports that the Messenger of Allah said: "Our Lord descends to the lowest heaven during the last third of the night, inquiring: 'Who will call on Me so that I may respond to him? Who is asking something of Me so I may give it to him? Who is asking for My forgiveness so I may forgive him?"' This is related by the group. 'Amr ibn Abasah reports that he heard the Prophet say: "The closest that a slave comes to his Lord is during the middle of the latter portion of the night. If you can be among those who remember Allah, the Exalted One, at that time then do so." This is related by al-Hakim who grades it sahih according to Muslim's standards, and at-Tirmizhi calls it hasan sahih. AnNasa'i and Ibn Khuzaimah also recorded it. Abu Muslim asked Abu Zharr: "Which late-night prayer is the best?" He said: "I asked the Messenger of A...
