THE DREAM OF YŪSUF

FAJR REMINDER: THE DREAM OF YŪSUF

(Stars, sun, and moon prostrating to him)

By: Umm ‘Affān

Rajab 7, 1447 (28-December-2025)

There are indeed many stories, especially those of Allāh's Prophets and the challenges they encountered, that provide valuable lessons for those who reflect. A notable example is the narrative of Prophet Yūsuf (‘Alayhi Salām) and the trials he faced with his brothers, which offers numerous lessons for us to contemplate.

Allāh states:

لَّقَدْ كَانَ فِي يُوسُفَ وَإِخْوَتِهِ آيَاتٌ لِّلسَّائِلِينَ

“Verily, in Yūsuf (Joseph) and his brethren, there were Āyāt (proofs, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) for those who ask.”

[Sūrah Yūsuf (12) Verse 7]

Prophet Yūsuf (‘Alayhi Salām) is the son of Prophet Ya’qūb (‘Alayhi Salām), the grandson of Prophet Ishaque (‘Alayhi Salām), and the great-grandson of Prophet Ibrāhīm (‘Alayhi Salām). Allāh Akbar! This lineage is certainly a profound blessing for the family of Prophet Ibrāhīm (‘Alayhi Salām).

Allāh declares about Prophet Ibrāhīm (‘Alayhi Salām):

وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَجَعَلْنَا فِي ذُرِّيَّتِهِ النُّبُوَّةَ وَالْكِتَابَ وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَجْرَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَإِنَّهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ لَمِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ

“And We bestowed on him [Ibrāhīm (Abraham)], Ishaque (Isaac) and Ya'qūb (Jacob), and ordained among his offspring Prophethood and the Book [i.e. the Taurat (Torah) (to Mūsā - Moses), the Injeel (Gospel) (to 'Iesa - Jesus), the Qur'ān (to Muḥammad ﷺ), all from the offspring of Ibrāhīm (Abraham)], and We granted him his reward in this world, and verily, in the Hereafter he is indeed among the righteous.”

[Sūrah Al-'Ankabūt (29) Verse 27]

Thus, the story of Prophet Yūsuf (‘Alayhi Salām) allows us to appreciate the depth of Allāh’s Sovereignty over all matters and His Will's fulfillment, even amidst human intervention.

In his Tafsīr of Sūrah Yūsuf, Imām Ibn Kathīr (Raḥimahullāh) narrated that Ibn Jarīr At-Ṭabarī (Raḥimahullāh) cited ‘Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anhuma), who mentioned that the Jews had asked Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ) to share the story of Prophet Yūsuf (‘Alayhi Salām), one of their ancient Prophets. Consequently, it was revealed:

نَحْنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ أَحْسَنَ الْقَصَصِ بِمَا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ وَإِن كُنتَ مِن قَبْلِهِ لَمِنَ الْغَافِلِينَ

“We relate unto you (Muḥammad ﷺ) the best of stories through Our Revelations unto you, of this Qur'ān. And before this (i.e. before the coming of Divine Inspiration to you), you were among those who knew nothing about it (the Qur'ān).”

[Sūrah Yūsuf (12) Verse 3]

Through the Divine Words of Allāh (i.e., the Qur'ān), revealed to Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ), we learn about past Prophets of Allāh, the dynamics of nations, and the events that have shaped our historical landscape.

Allāh then commences the story of Prophet Yūsuf (‘Alayhi Salām):

إِذْ قَالَ يُوسُفُ لِأَبِيهِ يَا أَبَتِ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ أَحَدَ عَشَرَ كَوْكَبًا وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ رَأَيْتُهُمْ لِي سَاجِدِينَ

“(Remember) when Yūsuf said to his father: ‘O my father! Verily, I saw (in a dream) eleven stars and the sun and the moon - I saw them prostrating themselves to me.’”

[Sūrah Yūsuf (12) Verse 4]

Stars, the sun, and the moon prostrating to Yūsuf! What could this dream signify? How did his father respond to this vision? To be continued tomorrow, Allāh willing.

I beseech Allāh to keep us steadfast in goodness. Aameen.

NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yawm Arba'a. 29th day of Shaw'waal, 1445AH (Wednesday 8th May 2024). *_NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH_*. BismilLah.  Even though feelings of Panic, stress/worries etc are part of life, they must not reduce our acts of worship or trust in ALLAH. The more a man turns to ALLAH and focuses on HIM, the more he will feel a sense of peace and comfort, to an extent that no one knows except ALLAH. Hence those who know ALLAH, are close to HIM and fear HIM are the happiest of people, to such an extent that one of them said, in a well-known expression: “If the kings and the sons of kings knew what joy we have, they would fight us for it with the sword.” This is also what is expressed in the Qur’an, as ALLAH says: “Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him ALLAH will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and ALLAH will ...

HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER. Yaum Al-Khamis, 22nd day of Jumaadal Uula 1447AH, Thursday, 13th November, 2025.  *_HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN_*. BismilLah.  When we help our brothers and sisters in Islam, in reality, we are helping ourselves. The Messenger of ALLAH (S.A.W) said: He who relieves the hardship of a believer in this world, ALLAH Azzawajallah will relieve his hardship on the Day of Judgment. He who makes easy what is difficult, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will make it easy for him in the world and the hereafter. He who conceals the faults of a Muslim, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will conceal his faults in this ALLAH Azzawajallah world and the Hereafter, for ALLAH helps the servant as long as he helps his brother. Source: Ṣaḥīḥ "Muslim 2699. AlhamdulilLah.  With this I hope with immediate effect we will all strive to help each other in any possible way such as making dua for each other, supporting our relatives and those in need in ou...

BEST TIME FOR TAHAJJUD

*BEST TIME FOR TAHAJJUD* It is best to delay this prayer to the last third portion of the night. Abu Hurairah reports that the Messenger of Allah said: "Our Lord descends to the lowest heaven during the last third of the night, inquiring: 'Who will call on Me so that I may respond to him? Who is asking something of Me so I may give it to him? Who is asking for My forgiveness so I may forgive him?"' This is related by the group. 'Amr ibn Abasah reports that he heard the Prophet say: "The closest that a slave comes to his Lord is during the middle of the latter portion of the night. If you can be among those who remember Allah, the Exalted One, at that time then do so." This is related by al-Hakim who grades it sahih according to Muslim's standards, and at-Tirmizhi calls it hasan sahih. AnNasa'i and Ibn Khuzaimah also recorded it. Abu Muslim asked Abu Zharr: "Which late-night prayer is the best?" He said: "I asked the Messenger of A...
