DARK EMOTIONS...
Episode six
Overhead, the sky had deepened to black and the clouds were rolling away, clearing the rain to reveal bright stars. Safiyah reveled in the sensation as the cold was chased from her bones. Gritting her teeth, as she was starring at her husband. "I am married to the man of my dream. Usually this is where the fairy tale ends. Stories don't go much further than this moment, and I fear there's a good reason for it." Uhmm! (Safiyah makes a long soft sound)." Ali!! Yes my love, (Now drawing near his wife). Alhamdulillah, for the safe trip, here we are my joy, but it seems there's something sinister about this surgery. Why delay the inevitable? Or what if I'm destined to die young, or should I ask you this, "how will you cope if I'm to take a shadow flight soonest? (Safiyah bleats, feeling a deep dread all over her as her health status causes her angst). Safiyahhh!!(SubhanaLLAH), what has happened to your iman (faith)? Where are all these words coming from? (Not waiting for her response), we both agreed to travel here all because we believe Allah will use this surgery as a sabab (means) to restore your sound health. You're my strength, once you're weak, that simply means I'm dead. Please my heart, promise me, you will stay with me till the end! (Ali replied, looking at Safiyah with a most melancholy expression).
It is not that I'm weak, but I'm only sacred of leaving you behind so soon. You won't, Safiyah, by Allah, you will livelong. Please my love, we just have to be patient and be prayerful, we shouldn't allow our trials time to break us, and remember my queen, Allah never promise us the road will be easy, but He said: "I will be with those who have patience" so, let's keep our hope high in Allah's mercy, for I believe He will never forsake us. (Ali replied, giving her a kiss on her forehead, then she lay her head on his chest). Our appointment time with the doctor tomorrow is 8:00am, but I will like us to be there earlier, alright Ali, may Allah spare our lives (the both of them chorused "Aameen").
The duo are presently at the hospital premises, waiting for the doctor to pronounced their name. A lot of people were seen with different ailments, some were struggling to breathe, some with wheel chairs, some cannot even stand nor sit, they were just restless,(SubhanaLLAH!! Safiyah breathe out slowly and muttered to herself). So I'm still lucky my king, my ailment was an hidden one, no one could know, not until I tell people about it. Uhmm, Alhamdulillah! Yes my dear, different people with different adversities, and that is why we have to remain steadfast and be more prayerful. You see my dear, for each smile on the planet there's a drop of tear in another place on the same planet, and for each celebration of childbirth, there are tears of burials. We just have to be more patient, be contented, helpful, and we should always be grateful to Allah. I pray to Almighty Allah to ease the affairs of the entire Muslims. (Safiyah muttered Aameen) Amidst Ali's admonition, they heard the receptionist calling out their names, and they were ushered into the doctor's office.
Good morning Doctor, yeah, Good morning, you can have your seat. Your name again please, " I am Ali Muhummad and she is Safiyah bint Sufiyan" (Ali replied him with a half smile on his face). Okay, it's fine. So, I've scan through her medical files, and I observed she's here for a breast cancer surgery. Yes sir. Alright, the scheduled time for her surgery will be 10:00am this morning, and you have to sign the letter of approval for the operation too, I think that is all for now. We are grateful Sir. So, let the nurses get her prepared for the surgery while you wait for her at the reception. Now, to you Madam, I believed you are ready for the operation? (The words felt like sharp nails drumming on Safiyah's skull, but she forced a smile all the same).Yes I am. "She embraced her husband, then she buried her face in his shoulder, bawling a hurt baby." Safiyah, please be strong for me, I know by Allah, it will be a successful one. I will continue to pray here, but promise me you will abide by their rules, and you will come back to me alive (Ali said amidst tears), Ali!! You should behave like a man, if you seems to be this weak, what do expect of me? (Safiyah replied with an optimistic tone). I will come out hale and healthy my treasure, just promise me you will be steady and calm. Of course, I will my queen, then he kissed her cheek and winked. "The nurses are here darling, you can go now."
Two nurses accompanied Safiyah into the operation room. Whilst the dialogue was still on, Ali, couldn't sit nor stand, facing up and down the clinic premises, as he continue to chant some adkhar (prayer), yah Allah, I beseech you to save Safiyah's life, she's all I have. My trust in you Allah, makes me marry Safiyah, despite I know she has a terminal illness. Yah Allah, I know you are the Most Generous and the Most Merciful, please restore Safiyah's health, and make this surgery a successful one. (with tears in his eyes, he supplicate to Allah), few hours later, the doctor was out of the operation room, immediately Ali sighted him, he rushed to meet him.
"Doctor, how is she? Can I see her now? Can she talk to me? Mr Ali! Can you please allow me to answer your questions one after the other? Okay, I'm sorry sir, but can I see her now? Not now, though we are fortunate about the surgery, and she will be moved into the post-operation room, by then, you will be able to see her (He replied him, and left, without waiting for Ali's response). Ali made a prostration to Allah as he muttered "Alhamdulillah" even more than he himself could count ( He was as happy as a clam).
Few minutes later, Ali was allowed to see his wife, he couldn't suppress a triumphant smile as he moved closer to her, hold her hands, it's still very cold. He made a move to give her a kiss on her forehead, by then, Safiyah opens her eyes, and she forced a smile. She gave him a sign, and Ali draw his ear closer to her and she pecked him."I love you my crown." (Ali was overjoyed), I love you too baby, so you can talk? Alhamdulillah, I'm really grateful my dear, thanks for being alive for my sake.(She smiled weakly at her husband.) Doctor said you still have to rest for now, I will suggest that, I excused you for some minutes, (he expected her to give him an affirmative sign, but Safiyah didn't respond). Safiyah, Safiyah, sweetheart, Safiyahhh, am talking to you now, (Safiyah still not responding), Safiyahhh (now with a panic voice). He felt a bloodcurdling sensation all over him, "is Safiyah dea--d? No, no, no, it can be," then he called out, "doctorrrrrrrr, nursssssssss, within a twinkle of an eye, they all assembled in Safiyah's ward. What happened? "She--I--we-- both are---(Ali stammered), I don't even know, please just check her for me."(He blurt out).
The doctor examined safiyah , then he said calmly, "Mr Ali," yes yes, (now trying to hold Ali), you just have to be a man. Doctorrr, please don't touch me, tell me what has happened to my wife, please calm down Mr Ali, "certainly, I think I'm calm enough, just tell me, what happened?" Your wife is presently in a comatose state, co-ma what? Yes, it means she is in a state of coma, and what do you mean by that? It's a state of unconsciousness in which a person cannot be awakened; fails to respond normally to painful stimuli, light or sound; lack a normal wake-sleep cycle, and this does not initiate voluntary actions.(Ali's voice is now shriller, the sobbing more pathetic, and words begin to garble as he swallows water).
"Oh Allah, please ease my affairs for me, return Safiyah's soul back to her body, she is my life, She must not die." (Ali's musings were interrupted by the sound of his mobile, he checked to know who was calling, his heart begin to palpate as he sight his mother's phone number.) "What will I tell her? How will I explain to her? What if she says, she had warned me earlier? Safiyah please wake up, wake up baby, wake upppppp!! Okay, tell me, what should I say, how do I construct it, Safiyah, please answer me!!! (He was crying bitterly, and sobbing as if his heart would break." His phone kept on ringing, then he decided to pick it up, even though he was still unstable.
"Assalamu alaykum ma, Wa'alaykumussalam my jewel. I have called you several times, why aren't you picking up calls? Or don't you see my missed calls? "I did--I do,- but--." But what? Ali!!! Do you want to kill me? What is it again? Okay, what of Safiyah? You told me by 2:00pm she will be out of the section room, and this is almost 6:00pm, though I have been calling you since then, but you refused to pick my calls. Will you please talk to me now?( Ali was still keeping mute). My son, you just have to talk to me, in other to know what next to do, what prayer to make, and some other things too (immediately he heard "what prayer to make," he voiced out. I think I should say something now, he heaved a long sigh and tightened his grip). Ummi, yes my son, the doctor said, Safiyah is in a state of coma. "Co what did you say? The implication was clear, and some how, Ali found he could not speak around the sudden lump in his throat, rather, he buried his face in his hands and went on sobbing...
