*AR-RAHĪQ AL-MAKHTOUM (The Pure Nectar). A Treaties On Prophet Muhammad's Biography.*

*Part 63*

*THE 'AQABAH FIRST PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE*

As stated previously six men from Yathrib embraced Islam during the season of hajj, the eleventh year of Prophethood and promised the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) to convey his message to their tribe.

In the next season of hajj, the twelfth year of Prophethood (621 A.D.) twelve men came from Yathrib and met the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him). Among them were the five men who met him in the past year and seven other men: Mu'ādh Ibnul-Hārith Ibn 'Afrāa (of the clan of An-Najjār, Al-Khazrajj tribe), Dhakwān Ibn 'Abdul-Qays (of the clan of Zuraiq, Al-Khazrajj tribe), Ubādah Ibnus-Sāmit (of the clan of Ghanm, Al-Khazrajj tribe), Yazīd Ibn Tha'alaba (the ally of the clan of Ghanm, Al-Khazrajj tribe), Al-'Abbas Ibn Ubādah Ibn Nadlah (of the clan of Sālim, Al-Khazrajj tribe), Al-Hayatham Ibn At-Tayahān (of the clan of 'Abdul-Ashhal, Al-Aws tribe) and 'Uwaim Ibn Sā'ida (of the clan of 'Amr Ibn 'Awf Al-Aws tribe).

They met the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) at Al-'Aqaba, Mecca and pledged allegiance to him. Al-Bukhāry narrated on the authority of Ubādah Ibnus-Sāmit that he said: "On the night of Al-'Aqaba pledge of allegiance, Allāh's Messenger said While a group of his Companions were around him, "Swear allegiance to me as to the following points:

1. Not to worship anything besides Allāh.

2. Not to steal.

3. Not to commit illegal Sexual intercourse.

4. Not to kill your children.

5. Not to claim the paternity of children who are not really yours.

6. Not to disobey me when ordered you to do something."

The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) added: "Whoever among you fulfills his pledge will be rewarded by Allāh. And whoever indulges in any one of them (except the ascription of partners to Allāh) and gets the punishment in this world, that punishment will be an expiation for that sin. And if one indulges in any of them, and Allāh conceals his sin, it is up to Him to forgive or punish him (in the Hereafter)." Ubādah Ibnus-Sāmit added: "So we swore allegiance for that."

*THE FIRST AMBASSADOR OF ISLAM TO MADINAH*

After the pledge of allegiance was given and the season of hajj was over, the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) sent the first ambassador to Yathrib to teach the new converts religious matters and spread Islam among other people who remained Pagans. The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) chose for this position a young man of the early Muslims, named Mus'ab Ibn 'Umair.

JOYFUL SUCCESS

Mus'ab Ibn'Umair stayed at the house of As'ad Ibn Zurāra. Very enthusiastically and actively, they began to spread Islam among the inhabitants of Yathrib. Here is one of the most wonderful stories of his great success in spreading Islam. One day As'ad Ibn Zurāra accompanied Mus'ab and headed for Banul-Ashhal and Zafar. They entered a garden belonging to Banu Zafar and sat down beside a well called 'Maraqq'. When some Muslims saw them, they came towards them and gathered. When Sa'ad Ibn Mu'ādh and Usaid Ibn Hudair, two prominent leaders in the clan of Al-Ashhal, heard of this, Sa'ad said to Usaid: "Go to these two men who came to deceive and make light of the weak of our clan. Prevent them and order them not to come here again. As if As'ad is not my cousin, I would do that instead of you."

Usaid took his lance and went to them. When As'ad saw him, he said to Mus'ab: "This is a prominent leader coming to you. Please be frank with him." Mus'ab said: "Can he sit down to speak to him?" Usaid came hurling insults at them and said: "What made you come to us? To depreciate the weak of us? Go away from us if you want to keep your lives." Mus'ab said to him: "Will you sit down and listen to me? If my speech appeals to you, you can accept it. If it doesn't, then get rid of what you dislike." Usaid said: "You are right." Then he fixed the lance into the ground and sat down. Mus'ab mentioned to him some points in Islam and recited him some verses of the Glorious Qur-ān. Then Mus'ab said (about Usaid): "By Allāh, we could see Islam in his face, which lit up, before he said a word. After he listened to the Qur-ān, he commented: "How beautiful and agreeable it is! He asked: "What do you do when you want to embrace this religion?" They said to him: "You should take a bath, cleans your clothes, pronounce the two Testimonies then perform two rak'ats of prayer." He rose up, took a bath, professed his faith and then observed two rak'ats as they said. After that he said: "There is a man whose clan may convert to Islam if he follows you. I will persuade him to come to you now."

He left away and took his lance making his way to Sa'ad. He found him with his tribesmen at their meeting place. Upon seeing him Sa'ad said: "I swear that he came to you with a face different than that which he left you with." He asked him: "Tell me what you did." He said: "I indeed spoke to the two men, but they were very tolerant and flexible. I warned them and they agreed to do what I liked. It came to my knowledge that Banu Hārithah wanted to kill As'ad Ibn Zurāra, your cousin." Sa'ad became very angry, took his lance and left away to defend As'ad. As he saw Mus'ab and As'ad safe, he realised that Usaid played that trick on him to listen to them. As soon as As'ad had seen him, he said to Mus'ab: "This is another chieftain coming to you. If he follows you, all his fellow tribesmen will accept Islam too." Sa'ad stopped near them and began hurling abuses at them then he said to As'ad Ibn Zurāra: "But for our land! Mus'ab said to Sa'ad: "Would you have a seat and listen to me?" If my words appeal to you, you can accept them. If not, then get rid of what you dislike." Usaid said: "You are right." Then he fixed the lance into the ground and sat down. Mus'ab mentioned to him some points in Islam and recited him some verses of the Glorious Qur-ān. Mus'ab said: By Allāh, we could see Islam in his face, which lit up, before he said a word. After he heard the Qur-ān, he commented: "How beautiful and agreeable it is! He asked: "What do you do when you want to embrace this religion?" They said to him: "You should take a bath, cleanse your clothes, pronounce the two Testimonies then perform two rak'ats of prayer." He rose up, took a bath, professed his faith and then observed two rak'ats. He took his lance and went to the meeting place of his people. When they saw him, they said: "We swear that he returned with a face different from that which he went with."

He turned to the people who were present and said: "O the clan of Al-Ashhal! What do you think about me?" They said: "You are our master, and you are the wisest and most good-natured of us." He said: "Then I will never speak to any of you, men or women, unless you believe I. Allāh and His Messenger Muhammad (Blessings and Peace be upon him)." Actually, all the members of the of the clan accepted Islam except for a man called Al-Usairim who professed his conversion to Islam on the day of Uhud. On that day he fought till he was martyred. The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) said about him: "He offered few good acts but received a considerable reward."

As for Mus'ab, he stayed at the house of As'ad Ibn Zurāra inviting people to Islam. Thus Islam entered almost all the houses of the supporters, with the exception of the clans of Umayya Ibn Zaid, Khatmah and Wā'il who gave way to the wishes of a poet called Qais Ibn Al-Asilt who dissuaded them from Islam. But they embraced Islam formally in the fifth year of Hijra.

Before the season of hajj of the thirteenth year of Prophethood, Mus'ab returned to Mecca carrying the good news of his substantial success and recounting the excellent traits and strength of the people of Yathrib.

NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yawm Arba'a. 29th day of Shaw'waal, 1445AH (Wednesday 8th May 2024). *_NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH_*. BismilLah.  Even though feelings of Panic, stress/worries etc are part of life, they must not reduce our acts of worship or trust in ALLAH. The more a man turns to ALLAH and focuses on HIM, the more he will feel a sense of peace and comfort, to an extent that no one knows except ALLAH. Hence those who know ALLAH, are close to HIM and fear HIM are the happiest of people, to such an extent that one of them said, in a well-known expression: “If the kings and the sons of kings knew what joy we have, they would fight us for it with the sword.” This is also what is expressed in the Qur’an, as ALLAH says: “Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him ALLAH will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and ALLAH will ...

HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER. Yaum Al-Khamis, 22nd day of Jumaadal Uula 1447AH, Thursday, 13th November, 2025.  *_HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN_*. BismilLah.  When we help our brothers and sisters in Islam, in reality, we are helping ourselves. The Messenger of ALLAH (S.A.W) said: He who relieves the hardship of a believer in this world, ALLAH Azzawajallah will relieve his hardship on the Day of Judgment. He who makes easy what is difficult, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will make it easy for him in the world and the hereafter. He who conceals the faults of a Muslim, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will conceal his faults in this ALLAH Azzawajallah world and the Hereafter, for ALLAH helps the servant as long as he helps his brother. Source: Ṣaḥīḥ "Muslim 2699. AlhamdulilLah.  With this I hope with immediate effect we will all strive to help each other in any possible way such as making dua for each other, supporting our relatives and those in need in ou...

THE MUSLIM WOMAN AND HER OWN SELF

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER. Yawm athalaatha, 3rd day of Rabeeul Awwal 1447AH, Tuesday, 26th August 2025. *_THE MUSLIM WOMAN AND HER OWN SELF_*. BismilLah.  Islam encourages Muslims in general to stand out among people, readily distinguishable by their dress, appearance and behaviour, so that they will be a good example, worthy of the great message that they bring to humanity. According to the hadith narrated by the great Sahabi Ibn al-Hanzaliyyah, the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam ) told his Companions, when they were travelling to meet some brothers in faith: "You are going to visit your brothers, so repair your saddles and make sure that you are dressed well, so that you will stand out among people like an adornment, for ALLAH (SWT) does not love ugliness." Reported by Imam Abu Dawud, 4/83, in Kitab al-libas, bab ma ja'a fi isbal al-izar. The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) considered an unkempt and careless appearance, and scruffy clothes and furnishings, to be...
