*SIX GOOD-NATURED YOUNG MEN FROM YATHRIB*
During the season of hajj of the eleventh year of Prophethood (620 A.D.) the calling of Islam found blessed seeds that rapidly developed into fruitful trees which provided Muslims with shade and protected them from all forms of trouble. It was wise of the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) to go by night to other tribes so that polytheists could not see and prevent him. One night he (the Prophet) went outdoors and took Abu Bakr and 'Ali with him. He passed by the dwellings of Zhul and Shaibān Ibn Tha'alaba and talked to them about Islam. On his side Abu Bakr had gentle conversations with a man from Zhul. Though Banu Shaibān gave acceptable answers, they rejected Islam. Afterwards, the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) passed through the 'Aqabah of Minā. On his way he heard voices of some men who were speaking. He walked towards their direction till he overtook them. They were six young men who belonged to the tribe of Al-Khazrajj, Yathrib. Their names were: As'ad Ibn Zurāra (of the clan of An-Najjār), 'Awf Ibnul-Hārith Ibn Rifā'a Ibn 'Afrāa (of the clan of An-Najjār), Rāfī Ibn Mālik Ibnul-'Ajlān (of the clan of Zuraiq), Qutbah Ibn 'Amir Ibn Hadida (of the clan of Salama), 'Uqba Ibn 'Amir Ibn Nāby (of the clan of Harām Ibn Ka'ab) and Jābir Ibn'Abdullāh Ibn Ri'ab (of the clan of 'Ubaid Ibn Ghanm).
It was fortunate that the people of Yathrib heard their Jewish allies who inhabited Madinah saying: "A Prophet will be sent at this time. So will follow him and kill you like 'Ad and Iram through him."
When the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) overtook them, he asked: "Who are you?" They replied: "We are from Al-Khazrajj." The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) said: "From the allies of the Jews?" They replied in the affirmative. He said: "Would you sit down to speak to you?" They said: "Of course, why not?" The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) explained Islam to them, preached them and recited them some verses of the Glorious Qur-ān. Upon this, they said to each other: "You know that he must be the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) with whom the Jews threatened you. They should not follow him before you. Comply with his call as quickly as possible and embrace Islam."
These six young men were said to be among the wise Khazrajis. The civil war that had ended recently exhausted and wore them out. But they continued to suffer from its after-effects. So they hoped that the Prophet's calling would put an end to these wars once and for all. They said: "We left our fellow tribesmen while they still bear outright animosity and hostility towards one another. May Allāh help you bring them together. We will go to them and bring forward your calling which we submitted to. If they unite, you will be of might and power."
When they returned to Madinah, they diffused the message of Islam everywhere and the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) was mentioned by everyone.
THE PROPHET'S MARRIAGE TO 'Ā'ISHAH
In Shawwal of the tenth year of Prophethood, the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) married 'Ā'ishah bint Abu Bakr As-Siddīq and consummated marriage with her in Madinah in Shawwal of the first year of Hijra, and she was then nine years old.
