*Part 65*

*THE FORERUNNERS OF HIJRA*

After accomplishing Al-'Aqaba Second Pledge of Allegiance and succeeding in establishing a new homeland for Islam amidst a desert full of benightedness and unbelief (the best gain Islam made since its beginning), the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) permitted Muslims to immigrate to this new homeland (Madinah).

The immigration not only meant the loss of interests, sacrificing property and escaping with just one's life, but it also meant being likely to be attacked and robbed on the way and beginning a new future with unknown results. However, Muslims, by virtue of their unwavering determination and firm belief, began to immigrate. But, as usual, polytheists tried to prevent them because they perceived that their immigration would threaten their interests. Here are some examples:

1. The first one to immigrate to Madinah was Abu Salamah as Ibn Is'hāq stated that he immigrated one year before the Major Pledge of Allegiance. When he decided to immigrate, the relatives of his wife said to him: "It's up to you to endanger your life. But why should you put our daughter's life at risk and take her to wander everywhere?" They took his wife from him, the matter which angered the relatives of Abu Salamah. They said: "We can't leave our son to her as he was separated from his father." They pulled the child back and forth till his hand was dislocated. At last, they (the relatives of his father) took the child with them and Abu Salamah went off to Madinah.

Because she was compelled to be away from her husband and son, Umm Salamah used to go to Al-Abtah every morning to weep till night fell. A whole year passed. Then one of her relatives felt for her and said: "Why don't you let such a poor mother go to her husband? You separated her from her husband and son." They said to her: "You may follow your husband." She took back her son and headed for Madinah (a journey of five hundred KM). When she reached At-Tan'im, 'Uthmān Ibn Talhah Ibn Abu Talhah met her and offered to lead her to Madinah. When they reached Qibaa, he said to her: "Your husband is present at this village. So enter it." Then he left for Mecca.

2. After Allāh's Messenger (Blessings and Peace be upon him), Suhaib Ibn Sinān Ar-Rumy immigrated to Madinah. Before doing so, the unbelievers of Quraish said to him: "You came to us while you were helpless and poor. But now you became wealthy in our city and attained a high statue. Do you want to escape with life and property? That's impossible." Suhaib said to them: "Will you set me free if I leave my property to you?" They agreed. He said: "Then I cede my entire property to you." When the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) heard of that, he said: "Suhaib had won. Suhaib has won."

3. 'Umar Ibnul-Khattāb, 'Ayyāsh Ibn Abu Rabī'ah and Hishām Ibnul-'Ass agreed to meet at a place called At-Tanādub near Saref (a place near At-Tan'im) in the morning and then immigrate to Madinah. 'Umar and 'Ayyāsh met while Hishām was confined.

After they reached Madinah and settled at Qibaa, Abu Jahl and his brother al-Hārith came to 'Ayyāsh and said to him: "Your mother vowed not to comb her hair or sit under a shade till she sees you." He felt pity for his mother. But 'Umar said to him: "Beware, 'Ayyāsh. Your people want you to renounce your religion. I swear that if lice harm your mother, she will comb her hair and if it gets hotter, she will sit under a shade." But 'Ayyāsh ignored 'Umar's advice and went with them to fulfill his mother's oath. 'Umar said to him: "If you insist in going, take my camel as it is tractable and fast. Keep mounting it. If you suspect anything, you can escape on it." So he mounted it and went with them. On the way Abu Jahl said to him: "My brother, I found my camel's back uncomfortable. Would you exchange your camel with mine? He said: "Of course." He made the camel kneel down so that Abu Jahl could ride it. As soon as they reached the ground, they took hold of him and shackled him. In the daytime they brought him in fetters in to Mecca and said: "O people of Mecca! Thus we deal with stupid people as we dealt with such a silly man." (Hishām and 'Ayyāsh remained in Quraish's clutches. When the Prophet [Blessings and Peace be upon him] immigrated, he said: "Who can save 'Ayyāsh and Hishām?" Al-Walīd Ibnul-Walīd said: "It's me who can rescue them, Allāh's Messenger. Then he went to Mecca in disguise and kept track of a woman who was offering them food till he knew their whereabouts. They were confined in a roofless house. When it was night, he scaled a wall, cut their fetters and carried them on his camel and he arrived in Madinah).

These are three examples of how polytheists dealt with those who wanted to immigrate. Muslims, however, could escape one by one.

Two months and few days after the Second Pledge of Allegiance, the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him), Abu Bakr and 'Ali as well as those who were confined by polytheists remained in Mecca. The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) geared himself up for immigration and waited for Allāh's command. Abu Bakr also prepared himself as the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) told him that he would be his journey mate.

Al-Bukhāry narrated that 'Ā'ishah (may be pleased with her) said: Allāh's Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) said to the Muslims: "I dreamt of the place where you would immigrate; it was a land of palm trees lying between two volcanic and stony areas." Some Muslims immigrated to Madinah. As for the Muslims who were in Abyssinia, they returned and went to Madinah. When Abu Bakr got ready and wanted to head for Madinah, the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) said to him: "Take your time. I hope I will be allowed to go." Abu Bakr said: "Do you hope so really?" The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) said: "Yes." So Abu Bakr devoted his time to the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) and fed two riding camels with the leaves of Samar for four months.

GIVE CHARITY FOR YOUR OWN GOOD

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yawm Ath-thalaatha. 28th day of Shaw'waal, 1445AH (Tuesday 7th May 2024). *_GIVE CHARITY FOR YOUR OWN GOOD_*. Aameen.  Narrated Abu Hurairah [radhi-yAllahu 'anhu]: The Prophet (SallallahuAlaihiWasallam) said, "Charity is obligatory everyday on every joint of a human being.* If one helps a person in matters concerning his riding animal by helping him to ride on it or by lifting his luggage on to it, all these will be regarded as charity. A good word, and every step one takes to offer the compulsory congregational prayer is regarded as charity; and guiding somebody on the road is regarded as charity." [Sahih Al-Bukhari, 4/2891]. To show gratitude to ALLAH for keeping your body safe and sound, you should give in charity or do charitable deeds. Narrated Abu Hurairah [radhi-yAllahu 'anhu]: ALLAH'S Messenger (sallallahuAlaihiWasallam) said, "The strong is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the strong is the one w

NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yawm Arba'a. 29th day of Shaw'waal, 1445AH (Wednesday 8th May 2024). *_NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH_*. BismilLah.  Even though feelings of Panic, stress/worries etc are part of life, they must not reduce our acts of worship or trust in ALLAH. The more a man turns to ALLAH and focuses on HIM, the more he will feel a sense of peace and comfort, to an extent that no one knows except ALLAH. Hence those who know ALLAH, are close to HIM and fear HIM are the happiest of people, to such an extent that one of them said, in a well-known expression: “If the kings and the sons of kings knew what joy we have, they would fight us for it with the sword.” This is also what is expressed in the Qur’an, as ALLAH says: “Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him ALLAH will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and ALLAH will p
