The jana'iz prayer and how to make it..
Alhamdulillah, the janaa'iz prayer is the prayer which is done upon the dead.
The prophet pbuh used to observe this prayer as final prayer seeking forgiveness for the dead.
As it is reported from the hadith and Qur'an.
The Quran says,
At-Taubah 9:80
Ask forgiveness for them, [O Muhammad], or do not ask forgiveness for them. If you should ask forgiveness for them seventy times – never will Allah forgive them. That is because they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger, and Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people.
This ayah was revealed upon Abdullah bin ubayy bin salun who was chief of hypocrites and accepted Islam just to harm the believers.
When the messenger of Allah salla Allahu alayhi wasalaam went and prayed for him, umar r.a objected and this ayah was revealed.
The jana'iz prayer is mostly four takbir without sujud or ruku'.
Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah:
The Prophet (ﷺ) offered the funeral prayer for Ashama, the Negus, with four Takbir.
Sahih al-Bukhari 3879.
It was narrated that Talhah bin 'Abdullah said:
"I offered the funeral prayer behind Ibn 'Abbas and I heard him reciting Fatihat Al-Kitab. When he finished I took him by the hand and asked him. 'Did you recite?' He said: 'Yes, it is the truth and the Sunnah."'
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1988.
Awf bin malik r.a. narrates,
I heard the Messenger of Allah offer the funeral prayer and say: Allahumma ighfir lahu warhamhu wa`fu `anhu wa `afihi, wa akrim nuzulahu wa wassi` mudkhalahu waghsilhu bi-ma'in wa thaljin wa-barad, wa naqqihi min al-khataya kama yunaqqa ath-thawb al-abyad min ad-danas. Wa abdilhu daran khairan min darihi wa ahlan khayran min ahlihi, wa zawjan khayran min zawjihi, wa qihi 'adhab al-qabri wa 'adhab an-nar (O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, forgive him and keep him safe and sound, honor the place where he settles and make his entrance wide; wash him with water and snow and hail, and cleanse him of his sin as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. Give him a house better than his house and a family better than his family and a spouse better than his spouse. Protect him from the torment of the grave and the torment of Hell-fire)." 'Awf said: "I wished that I was that deceased person because of the supplication that the Messenger of Allah said for that deceased person."
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1983.
The first takbir is fatiha, second is solaatul nnabiyy,
The one makes the dua and last takbir one prays for all Muslims and make salam.
May Allah guides our eeman and forgives all our deceased.
Aameen
