*THE BATTLE OF UHUD continues*
*POLYTHEISTS SUSTAIN A DEFEAT*
Thus the violent war broke out and the Muslim army kept their control over the situation till the polytheists heroes lost strength and courage. Their ranks began to melt away from all directions. It seemed as if three thousand polytheists had fought thirty thousand Muslims who showed all forms of bravery and self-defence.
After Quraish made all possible efforts in repelling the attacks of the Muslims, it felt so unable and weak that none could approach their flag which remained on the ground and carry it to inflame the battle again. Thus they began to withdraw and flee away ignoring their previous intention to retaliate against the Muslims and regain their glory and esteem. Ibn Is'hāq said: "Allāh bestowed victory upon Muslims and fulfilled His promise. Muslims wiped out the polytheists with their swords and so they pulled out of the battle and sustained a humiliating defeat.
'Abdullāh Ibn Az-Zubayr narrated that his father said: "I have seen Hend bint 'Utba and her fellows fleeing away and lifting up their clothes. They were about to be held captive."
Al-Barrā Ibn Azib reported: "I saw the women (of Quraish) fleeing and lifting up their clothes, revealing their leg-bangles and their legs.". Then Muslims began to collect the booties.
