*Part 118*

*THE BATTLE OF UHUD continues*

*MUSLIMS SCATTER IN THE BATTLEFIELD*

When the Muslims army fell prey to the encirclement, a group of them became undecided and fled away and left the battlefield. Some of them fled to Madīnah and others climbed the mountain. Another group of Muslims resumed fighting against the polytheists and mixed with their ranks to the degree that Muslims killed one another by mistake. Al-Bukhāry narrated on the authority of 'Ā'ishah who said: "On the day (of the battle) of Uhud when the Pagans were defeated, Satan shouted: "O servants of Allāh! Beware of the forces at your back," and on that the Muslims of the front files fought with the Muslims of the back files (thinking they were Pagans). Hudhaifa looked back to see his father "Al-Yaman," (being attacked by the Muslims). He shouted, "O Allāh's Servants! My father! My father!" By Allāh, they did not stop till they killed him. Hudhaifa said, "May Allāh forgive you." 'Urwah said that Hudhaifa continued to do good deeds (invoking Allāh to forgive the killer of his father till he died." Confused and disorder prevailed in the whole ranks of this group and and at this moment they heard someone shouting: "Muhammad has been killed." Muslims became more bewildered and their morale deteriorated. Some stopped fighting and laid down their arms in abasement. Others thought of contacting with 'Abdullāh Ibn Ubayy to take a covenant of security from Abu Sufyān regarding them. When the Muslims laid down their arms, Anas Ibn An-Nadr passed by them and said: "What do you wait for?" They replied: "The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) has been killed." He said: "How will you enjoy life after him? Rise up and sacrifice your lives in the cause for which the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) died." Then he said: "O Allāh! I beg you to excuse me for what those people (Muslims) did and I clear myself of what those people (polytheists) did. Then he advanced forth and met Sa'ad Ibn Mu'ādh who asked: "Where are you going, Abu 'Umar?" Anas said: "How fantastic the scent of Paradise is! I do detect it just behind Uhud." He engaged the enemy till he was killed. After the battle ended, none of the Muslims could recognise him but his sister through his fingertips. He had nearly eighty wounds caused by stabbing, striking with the sword or shooting with arrows.

Also Thābit Ibn Ad-Dahdāh called out his people: " O community of the Supporters! If Muhammad was really killed, Allāh is Living and He never dies. Fight for the sake of your religion. As Allāh will support and grant you victory." A group of the Supporters joined him and they fought against the regiment of Khālid till they all met their death. One of the Immigrants passed by a man of Khālid till the Supporters while he was bleeding heavily and asked: "Did you know that Muhammad was killed?" The wounded man said: "If he was really killed, he would then have conveyed the Message. So fight in the cause of your religion."

Through this wonderful way of heroism and encouragement, Muslims became in high spirits and found their right decisions; they desisted from surrender or contacting with Ibn Ubayy and lifted up their arms to resume battling against the polytheists in an attempt to force a way towards the headquarters. What motivated them considerably to fight on and increased their enthusiasm was their knowledge that the news of the Prophet's death was false. They succeeded in escaping from the encirclement and gathering around an impenetrable centre after they had been involved in a fierce battle. As for the third group of the Muslims, they cared about the Prophet's safety. So they hurried up to him and formed a strong hedge to defend him against the enemy's attacks. At the forefront of these brave and loyal Companions were Abu Bakr, 'Umar Ibnul-Khattāb and 'Ali Ibn Abu Tālib.

THE FIGHT ESCALATES THE PROPHET (Blessings and Peace be upon him)

While the Muslim army were facing the perils of encirclement and fighting the polytheists through two pivots at the same time, the fight around the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) became heated. We pointed out that when the polytheists began to encircle the Muslim army, there were nine fighters with the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him). When he called out the Muslims: 'Come on to me, I am Allāh's Messenger', the Pagans heard him and reached his place before Muslims came. Thereupon a fierce battle occurred between the nine Muslim fighters and some polytheists. This very hard situation revealed the rara avises of love, self-denial, bravery and heroism. Imām Muslim narrated on the authority of Anas Ibn Mālik that he said: "The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) was left with only seven men of the Supporters and two men of the Immigrants. When the enemy advanced towards him and overwhelmed him, he said: "Whoever turns them away from us will attain Paradise or will be my fellow in Paradise." A man from the supporters came forward and fought (the enemy) until he was killed. The enemy advanced towards and overwhelmed him again and he repeated the same words: Whoever turns them away from us will attain Paradise or will be my mate in Paradise. A man from the supporter came forward and fought until he was killed. This state continued until the seven men were killed (one after the other). Now, the Messenger of Allāh said to his Companions: "We have not done justice to our Companions."

The last of these seven fighters was 'Imārah Ibn Yazīd Ibn As-Sakan who fought and died of many serious wounds.

Aameen.  Narrated Abu Hurairah [radhi-yAllahu 'anhu]: The Prophet (SallallahuAlaihiWasallam) said, "Charity is obligatory everyday on every joint of a human being.* If one helps a person in matters concerning his riding animal by helping him to ride on it or by lifting his luggage on to it, all these will be regarded as charity. A good word, and every step one takes to offer the compulsory congregational prayer is regarded as charity; and guiding somebody on the road is regarded as charity." [Sahih Al-Bukhari, 4/2891]. NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yawm Arba'a. 29th day of Shaw'waal, 1445AH (Wednesday 8th May 2024). *_NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH_*. BismilLah.  Even though feelings of Panic, stress/worries etc are part of life, they must not reduce our acts of worship or trust in ALLAH. The more a man turns to ALLAH and focuses on HIM, the more he will feel a sense of peace and comfort, to an extent that no one knows except ALLAH. Hence those who know ALLAH, are close to HIM and fear HIM are the happiest of people, to such an extent that one of them said, in a well-known expression: “If the kings and the sons of kings knew what joy we have, they would fight us for it with the sword.” This is also what is expressed in the Qur’an, as ALLAH says: “Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him ALLAH will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and ALLAH will p
