*Part 114*

*THE BATTLE OF UHUD continues*

*FIGHT ENCOMPASSES ALL POINTS*

While the battle was concentrating on the bearers of the flag, fierce was occurring in the remaining points. At this moment the spirit of belief prevailed among the Muslims. They penetrated the ranks of the polytheists so courageously and strongly. Then Abu Dujānah came wearing his red headband and holding the Prophet's sword. He insisted on making good his promise. He fought the enemy heroically penetrating their ranks and decapitating a lot of their fighters. Az-Zubayr Ibnul-'Awwām said: "I felt sorry when the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) didn't give me his sword and handed it to Abu Dujānah. I said to myself: "I am the son of his aunt Safiyyah and from Quraish. I asked him for the sword first but he gave it to Abu Dujānah. I should watch what he is doing. So I followed him. I saw him taking out a red headband and putting it on his head. Upon seeing him, the supporters said: "Abu Dujānah brought out the headband of death." He walked through the battleground saying: "It's me who promised his friend not to fight at the rear ranks while we were at the versant beside the palm trees. He ordered me to strike with sword of Allāh and the Prophet." Whenever he met one of the polytheists, he decapitated him so fiercely. In the meantime there was a man among the polytheists who was finishing off our wounded fighters. I pleaded Allāh to make them meet together. They met together and struck each other alternatively. The polytheist man delivered a blow to Abu Dujānah. But he avoided it by his leather shield. Then Abu Dujānah struck him back and beheaded him at once. Abu Dujānah carried on penetrating the enemy's ranks till he reached the leader of Quraish's women without recognising her. He said: "I saw someone urging people to fight. So I advanced towards such a person, and as soon as I raised my sword over his head, I found a woman who was howling. I abstained from killing a woman by the Prophet's sword. This woman was Hend bint'Utba. Az-Zubayr said: "I watched Abu Dujānah raising his sword over the head of Hend, but he suddenly kept away the sword from her. I said then: "Allāh and His Prophet know best."

As regards Hamza Ibn'Abdul-Mutallib, he was fighting as if he had been an excited lion. He dragged himself into the heart of the polytheists' army defying death. Besides his effective role in exterminating the bearers of the flag, he fought other enemy heroes very fiercely. He proceeded with his fabulous fight till he met his death while he was at the forefront of the brave combatants. But he was not killed as other heroes were killed face to face in the battleground. He was killed unawares.

THE DEATH OF HAMZA IBN 'ABDUL-MUTALLIB

Wahshi Ibn Harb who killed Hamza says: "I was a slave to Jubair Ibn Mut'am whose uncle was killed on the battle of Badr by Hamza." When Quraish marched towards Uhud, my master, Jubair said to me: "If you kill Hamza in revenge for my uncle, then you will be set free."

When the people set out (for the battle of Uhud), I went out with them for fight. I was from Abyssinia and used to hit any target with the spear. When the army began fight, Siba' came out and said: "Is there any (Muslim) to accept my challenge to a duel?" Hamza Ibn 'Abdul-Mutallib came out as if he had been an ash-coloured camel and said: "O Siba'." O son of the one who circumcises other ladies!" Hamzah attacked and beheaded him. Thereupon I hid myself behind a rock, and when he (i.e Hamza) came near me, I threw my spear at him, inserting it into his umbilicus so that it came out through his buttocks, causing him to die. Then I went to him and took away my spear and returned to my camp. I was not bound to kill anyone else. I just did so to gain my freedom. So on returning to Mecca, I was manumitted."

CONTROLLING THE WHOLE SITUATION

Despite the grave loss Muslims sustained by the killing of Hamza, they continued controlling the whole situation. On that day Abu Bakr, 'Umar Ibnul-Khattāb, 'Ali Ibn Abu Tālib, Az-Zubayr Ibn Al-'Awwām, Mus'ab Ibn 'Umair, Talhah Ibn'Ubaidullah, 'Abdullāh Ibn Jahsh, Sa'ad Ibn Mu'ādh, Sa'ad Ibn Ubādah, Sa'ad Ibn Ar-Rabi', Anas Ibn An-Nadr and others fought fiercely and bravery.

LEAVING THE BRIDE AND FIGHTING WITH THE SWORD

Among the venturesome heroes was Hanzalah Ibn Abu 'Amir. He was a newlywed. When he heard of the battle, he immediately left his bride and went to the battlefield to fight with the Muslims. He continued fighting the polytheists till he reached Abu Sufyān. He was about to attack and kill him, but Shadād Ibn Al-Aswad struck him with the sword, causing him to die.

THE ROLE OF THE SQUAD OF BOWMEN IN THE BATTLE

The squad of the bowmen whom the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) ordered to stick to their places on the mountain played an essential and substantial role in the battle. The cavalrymen of Mecca, under the command of Khalīd Ibnul-Walīd, tried three times to attack the left wing of the Muslim army with the help of Abu 'Amir the Debauchee to infiltrate into the rear ranks of Muslims and cause them to be in disorder and confusion and inflict a crushing defeat upon them. But the bowmen of the Muslim army shoot a barrage of arrows at them and foiled their attacks.

Aameen.  Narrated Abu Hurairah [radhi-yAllahu 'anhu]: The Prophet (SallallahuAlaihiWasallam) said, "Charity is obligatory everyday on every joint of a human being.* If one helps a person in matters concerning his riding animal by helping him to ride on it or by lifting his luggage on to it, all these will be regarded as charity. A good word, and every step one takes to offer the compulsory congregational prayer is regarded as charity; and guiding somebody on the road is regarded as charity." [Sahih Al-Bukhari, 4/2891]. To show gratitude to ALLAH for keeping your body safe and sound, you should give in charity or do charitable deeds. Narrated Abu Hurairah [radhi-yAllahu 'anhu]: ALLAH'S Messenger (sallallahuAlaihiWasallam) said, "The strong is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the strong is the one w

NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yawm Arba'a. 29th day of Shaw'waal, 1445AH (Wednesday 8th May 2024). *_NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH_*. BismilLah.  Even though feelings of Panic, stress/worries etc are part of life, they must not reduce our acts of worship or trust in ALLAH. The more a man turns to ALLAH and focuses on HIM, the more he will feel a sense of peace and comfort, to an extent that no one knows except ALLAH. Hence those who know ALLAH, are close to HIM and fear HIM are the happiest of people, to such an extent that one of them said, in a well-known expression: “If the kings and the sons of kings knew what joy we have, they would fight us for it with the sword.” This is also what is expressed in the Qur’an, as ALLAH says: “Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him ALLAH will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and ALLAH will p
