Yes, I accept the blame if you forgot to fast today as I should have reminded you yesterday BUT you can continue as you read this as it's not too late even if you didn't intend for it.  Basically,  the purpose of fasting is to develop the quality of righteousness (taqwa), inwardly and outwardly, by abstaining from sinful deeds and training ourselves to control our thoughts and desires. Fasting is a deeply spiritual practice that is meant to benefit us in body, mind, pietyheart. ALLAH says: يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you that you may become righteous. BismilLah.  ALLAH commanded the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam in Qur'an 18:110 to say to Mankind, "I am only a man like you, to whom has been revealed that your LORD is ONE. So whoever would hope for the meeting with his LORD - let him do RIGHTEOUS WORK (in accordance with the prescribed laws of ALLAH,) and NOT ASSOCIATE in the worship of his Lord anyone." ALLAHU AKBAR.  This is what is meant by seeking the pleasure of ALLAH alone with no associate or partner. These are the two basic features of acceptable deeds: their intent is for the sake of ALLAH alone, and are done in accordance with the way of the Messenger of ALLAH.
