*THE GREAT BATTLE OF BADR continues*
*THE MUSLIM ARMY OCCUPY THE MOST IMPORTANT MILITARY POSITION FIRST*
The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) advanced with his army to reach the well of Badr first to prevent the polytheists from capturing it. In the evening the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) reached the nearest well of Badr. Thereupon Al-Hubāb Ibnul-Mundhir, as a military expert, said: "O Allāh's Messenger! Is this position that Allāh ordered you to camp at and therefore, we can neither step beyond or stay far behind it? Or is this a question of military strategies?" The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) said: "It is a matter of military strategies." He said: "O Allah's Messenger! This position will not be a suitable one. We can lead the fighters towards the nearest well to the enemy to camp and ruin other wells. Then we can build a basin, fill it with water and drink of it. Thereupon we could fight the enemy." Allāh's Messenger (Blessings and Peace be upon him) said: "You have put forward a good proposal." So the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) led the army till they reached the well nearest to the enemy and camped there at midnight. Then they created some basins and destroy the remaining wells.
THE HEADQUARTERS
After Muslims stayed at the well, Sa'ad Ibn Mu'ādh suggested erecting a general headquarters for the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) as a preparation for any emergencies. He said: "O Allāh's Messenger! Let us erect a booth for you to stay in and prepare for you some mounts before we confront the enemy. If Allāh grants us the strength and confers upon us victory over them, this will be fine and great. If otherwise, then you can ride your mount, and join the rear ranks of our forces and return home. There are some people who stay behind in Madīnah and love you as much as we do. None thought that this expedition would turn out to be a military conflict. Had they realised this, they would not have failed to be present with you to consult, protect you and fight with you." The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) lauded him and wished him well. Muslims constructed a booth for the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) on the top of a mound in the northeast of the battleground where it it overlooked the battlefield.
MOBILISING THE ARMY AND SPENDING THE NIGHT
The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) mobilised his army and walked through the battleground pointing with his hands and saying: "So and so will be killed tomorrow at this place tomorrow, God willing and this is the place where so and so will be killed, God willing." Then he went to a trunk and performed prayer beside it. Muslims took some rest and spent a quiet night with complete confidence and high spirits, hoping for eyeing Allāh's good tidings. Allāh says:
Surah Al-Anfal, Verse 11:
(Remember) when He covered you with a slumber as a security from Him, and He caused water (rain) to descend on you from the sky, to clean you thereby and to remove from you the Rijz (whispering, evil-suggestions, etc.) of Shaitan (Satan), and to strengthen your hearts, and make your feet firm thereby.
This was on Friday night, the 17th of Ramadān, 2 A.H. The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) moved out on the 8th or the 12th day of the same month.
