*AR-RAHĪQ AL-MAKHTOUM (The Pure Nectar). A Treaties On Prophet Muhammad's Biography.*
*Part 90*
*THE GREAT BATTLE OF BADR continues*
*THE SATAN WITHDRAWS FROM THE BATTLEFIELD*
When Satan (who came in the form of Surāqa Ibn Mālik and stayed with them) saw the angels fighting polytheists, he ran away. While doing so, he was caught by al-Hārith Ibn Hishām (thinking that he was Surāqa). But he punched al-Hārith in the chest and knocked him down and fled away. Upon seeing him fleeing away, polytheists said to him: "Where are you going Surāqa? Didn't you say that you would protect us? Don't leave us." He replied:
Surah Al-Anfal, Verse 48:
وَإِذْ زَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ أَعْمَالَهُمْ وَقَالَ لَا غَالِبَ لَكُمُ الْيَوْمَ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَإِنِّي جَارٌ لَّكُمْ فَلَمَّا تَرَاءَتِ الْفِئَتَانِ نَكَصَ عَلَىٰ عَقِبَيْهِ وَقَالَ إِنِّي بَرِيءٌ مِّنكُمْ إِنِّي أَرَىٰ مَا لَا تَرَوْنَ إِنِّي أَخَافُ اللَّهَ وَاللَّهُ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ
And (remember) when9 Shaitan (Satan) made their (evil) deeds seem fair to them and said, "No one of mankind can overcome you this Day (of the battle of Badr) and verily, I am your neighbour (for each and every help)." But when the two forces came in sight of each other, he ran away and said "Verily, I have nothing to do with you. Verily! I see what you see not. Verily! I fear Allah for Allah is Severe in punishment."
The harbouring of failure and disorder began to appear in the polytheists' ranks. Their forces began to collapse under the influence of Muslims' severe attacks. The battle was about to end and so rallies of polytheists pulled out and retreated in a disorderly way. But Muslims continue capturing and killing them easily till they were entirely vanquished.
