Surah Al-Anfal, Verse 1/2

*Surah Al-Anfal, Verse 1:*

يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْأَنفَالِ قُلِ الْأَنفَالُ لِلَّهِ وَالرَّسُولِ فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَصْلِحُوا ذَاتَ بَيْنِكُمْ وَأَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

They ask you (O Muhammad [Blessings and Peace of ALLĀH be upon him]) about the spoils of war. Say: "The spoils are for Allah and the Messenger." So fear Allah and adjust all matters of difference among you, and obey Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad [Blessings and Peace of ALLĀH be upon him]), if you are believers.

#COMMENTARY

The occasion was the question of the division of the booty after the battle of Badr.

Booty taken in a lawful and just war. It belongs to the Cause, in this case the Cause of Almighty ALLĀH (Sub-haanahu wata'aala), as administered by His Messenger. The chief thing is to remain staunch to the Cause of Almighty ALLĀH (Sub-haanahu wata'aala), and have no differences among those who stand for the Cause. Our internal relations must be kept straight: they must not be disturbed by cupidity or worldly considerations of gain, for any windfalls of this kind should be outside our calculations.

*Surah Al-Anfal, Verse 2:*

إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ الَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِرَ اللَّهُ وَجِلَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَإِذَا تُلِيَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتُهُ زَادَتْهُمْ إِيمَانًا وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ

The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, feel a fear in their hearts and when His Verses (this Qur-ān) are recited unto them, they (i.e. the Verses) increase their Faith; and they put their trust in their Lord (Alone);
