 *THE HYPOCRITE*

Allah describes the munafiqoon in surah al-Nisa' by saying:

[ وَإِذَا قَامُوا إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ قَامُوا كُسَالَىٰ يُرَاءُونَ النَّاسَ وَلَا يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا]

And when they stand for prayer, they stand lazily to be seen by people and they only remember Allah a little. [142]

In his tafsir, Imam al-Tabari wrote:

[حدثنا بشر بن معاذ قال : حدثنا يزيد قال : حدثنا سعيد ، عن قتادة قوله : " وإذا قاموا إلى الصلاة قاموا كسالى " ، قال : والله لولا الناس ما صلى المنافق ، ولا يصلي إلا رياء وسمعة . ... حدثنا بشر بن معاذ قال : حدثنا يزيد قال : حدثنا سعيد ، عن قتادة : " ولا يذكرون الله إلا قليلا " ، قال : إنما قل ذكر المنافق ، لأن الله لم يقبله . وكل ما رد الله قليل ، وكل ما قبل الله كثير .]

Qatadah said: "And when they stand for prayer, they stand lazily to be seen by people" - I swear by Allah, if it weren't for the people, a munafiq wouldn't even pray. He only prays to be seen and heard by others. 

"And they only remember Allah a little" - The remembrance of the munafiq is little because Allah does not accept it. Anything that Allah rejects is little, while anything that Allah accepts is abundant.
