 The Sunnah and what is it. 

Alhamdulillah, sunnah means path. 

Allah mentioned the name sunnah in Quran as path of the prophet 

Allah says, 

Al-Isra' 17:77

سُنَّةَ مَن قَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا قَبْلَكَ مِن رُّسُلِنَاۖ وَلَا تَجِدُ لِسُنَّتِنَا تَحْوِيلًا 

English - Sahih International

[That is Our] established way for those We had sent before you of Our messengers; and you will not find in Our way any alteration.

Whenever Allah says or command the prophet in something to do, Allah says this is the path(sunnah) of the prophets. 

Sunnah is the path by practicing the sayings of the prophet from the hadith. 

There are two wahy(revelation) in islam. 

The Quran and hadith and this is where we get our command from as Muslims. 

Anything apart from these two is innovations and misguidance

As Allah says, 

An-Nisa' 4:59

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَمْرِ مِنكُمْۖ فَإِن تَنَٰزَعْتُمْ فِى شَىْءٍ فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِ إِن كُنتُمْ تُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِۚ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ وَأَحْسَنُ تَأْوِيلًا 

O you who have believed, obey Allāh and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allāh and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allāh and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result.
