Alhamdulillah, let's remind ourselves and know that we shall surely die one day.

Allah says in Quran,

And every soul shall taste death.

Surah 21;35.

Death is decreed for every living soul.

When a person dies, the prophet pbuh instructed us to close his eyes and pray for him.

Seeking forgiveness of Allah for him and forbade us to wail and weep making noise like the time of jahiliyyah

As reported in hadith,

Umm Salama reported:

The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon came to Abu Salama (as he died). His eyes were fixedly open He closed them, and then said: When the soul is taken away the sight follows it. Some of the people of his family wept and wailed. So he said: Do not supplicate for yourselves anything but good, for angels say" Amen" to what you say. He then said: O Allah, forgive Abu Salama, raise his degree among those who are rightly guided, grant him a successor in his descendants who remain. Forgive us and him, O Lord of the Universe, and make his grave spacious, and grant him light in it.

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لأَبِي سَلَمَةَ وَارْفَعْ دَرَجَتَهُ فِي الْمَهْدِيِّينَ وَاخْلُفْهُ فِي عَقِبِهِ فِي الْغَابِرِينَ وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلَهُ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ وَافْسَحْ لَهُ فِي قَبْرِهِ ‏.‏ وَنَوِّرْ لَهُ فِيهِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏.

Umm Salama reported:

When Abu Salama died I said: I am a stranger in a strange land; I shall weep for him ina manner that would be talked of. I made preparation for weeping for him when a woman from the upper side of the city came there who intended to help me (in weeping). She happened to come across the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he said: Do you intend to bring the devil into a house from which Allah has twice driven him out? I (Umm Salama), therefore, refrained from weeping and I did not weep..

So weeping and wailing even increase punishment for the deceased person.

And in the grave, two angels descend upon a person, Munkar and Nakeer saying,

Who is your lord?

What is your religion?

Who is your prophet?

So if one is able to answer he will be shown hellfire and said this is the place where you would have been if you could not answer it.

So paradise will be opened to him and he will try to enter but will be said,

Sleep in the grave like the bride sleeps during his first night until the day of qiyaamah.

Narrated Anas:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "When a human being is laid in his grave and his companions return and he even hears their foot steps, two angels come to himand make him sit and ask him: What did you use to say about this man, Muhammad ? He will say: I testify that he is Allah's slave and His Apostle. Then it will be said to him, 'Look at your place in the Hell-Fire. Allah has given you a place in Paradise instead of it.' " The Prophet (ﷺ) added, "The dead person will see both his places. But a non-believer or a hypocrite will say to the angels, 'I do not know, but I used to say what the people used to say! It will be said to him, 'Neither did you know nor did you take the guidance (by reciting the Qur'an).' Then he will be hit with an iron hammer between his two ears, and he will cry and that cry will be heard by whatever approaches him except human beings and jinns."
