﷽
*Surah Al-Maeda, Verse 19:*
O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! Now has come to you Our Messenger (Muhammad [Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him]) making (things) clear unto you, after a break in (the series of) Messengers, lest you say: "There came unto us no bringer of glad tidings and no warner." But now has come unto you a bringer of glad tidings and a warner. And Allah is Able to do all things.
#COMMENTARY
The six hundred years (in round figures between Christ and Muhammad were truly the dark ages of the world. Religion was corrupted: the standard of morals fell low: many false systems and heresies arose; and there was a break in the succession of Prophets until the advent of Prophet Muhammad (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him).
﷽
*Surah Al-Maeda, Verse 20:*
And (remember) when Musa (Moses) said to his people: "O my people! Remember the Favour of Allah to you, when He made Prophets among you, made you kings, and gave you what He had not given to any other among the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns, in the past)."
#COMMENTARY
There was a long line of patriarchs and prophets before Moses, e.g., Abraham, Isaac, Ismā'īl, Jacob, etc.
From the slavery of Egypt the Children of Israel were made free and independent, and thus each man became as it were a king, if only he had obeyed Allāh and followed the lead of Moses.
Compared, Exodus, chapter xix, verse 5: "Now, therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people." Israel was chosen to be the vehicle of Allāh's message, the highest honour which any nation can receive.
