 The Ahlul Bayt and who they are. 

Alhamdulillah, the Ahlul bayt means the people of the house. 

These is a term used to refer to the household of the messenger of Allah salla Allahu alayhi wasalam. 

Allah says, 

Al-Ahzab 33:33

And abide in your houses and do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former times of ignorance. And establish prayer and give zakāh and obey Allāh and His Messenger. Allāh intends only to remove from you the impurity [of sin], O people of the [Prophet's] household, and to purify you with [extensive] purification.

Allah calls them Ahlul bayt. 

In another hadith, 

Aal-e-Imran 3:61

Then whoever argues with you about it after [this] knowledge has come to you - say, "Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, then supplicate earnestly [together] and invoke the curse of Allāh upon the liars [among us]."

From this ayah, the children refers to hasan and hussein, the women refers to fatima and Ali r. A

These are Ahlul bayt. 

And we have families of Abbas, Abdul manaf, Aqeel and banu abdul Mutalib. 

These are the household of the prophet. 

And their massacre of hussein is one of the sad days in islam but we muslims we feel fast on that day but we are to fast on ashura as they day coincides with ashura not to beat ourselves, tear of clothes and tie our head and mourning on that day. 

This is not in according to Islam.
