 The dignity of the day of Ashura and some innovation on that day. 

Alhamdulillah, the day of Ashuura is the tenth day of muharram and the day fir'awn was destroyed in the Red sea. 

It is sunnah to fast on that day and on the day too, the Shi'a sect in islam used to mourn the death of Hussein by dressing in black and beating their chest and tearing their clothes. 

Some also used to slice themselves and inflicting injury on themselves. 

Some sect too nawasib used to eat that day to feel their stomach and her opposition to the shi'a(ahlul bayt).

In islam, we do not follow any politics but the sunnah and as the prophet peace be upon him did. 

The death of Hussein where he was killed in karbala is a sad day for every Muslim but the prophet peace be upon Him did not mourn for anyone but fasted and ask the muslims to fast on that day. 

Even before the prophet peace be upon Him was legislated to fast on the month of muharram, the Quraish also used to fast on that day. 

As reported in the hadith, 

Narrated `Aisha:

(The tribe of) Quraish used to fast on the day of Ashura' in the Pre-Islamic period, and then Allahs Apostle ordered (Muslims) to fast on it till the fasting in the month of Ramadan was prescribed; whereupon the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "He who wants to fast (on 'Ashura') may fast, and he who does not want to fast may not fast."

Sahih al-Bukhari 1893.
