Obedience to Authority.
Allah says,
An-Nisa' 4:59
O you who have believed, obey Allāh and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allāh and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allāh and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result.
Obeying those in authority is part of worship except if what they are calling us to is against Allah and his rasool.
But apart from that, we have to obey them in our daily activities.
As reported in Hadith,
It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Holy prophet (ﷺ) said:
Whoso obeys me obeys God, and whoso disobeys me disobeys God. Whoso obeys the commander (appointed by me) obeys me and whoso disobeys the commander disobeys me. The same tradition transmitted by different persons omits the portion: And whose disobeys the commander disobeys me.
Sahih Muslim 1835 a, b.
It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Dharr who said:
My friend (i. e. the Holy Prophet) advised me to listen (to the man in position of authority) and obey(him) even if he were a slave maimed (and disabled).
Sahih Muslim 1837.
The messenger of Allah salla Allahu alayhi wasalam spoke of a time when some leaders will not give people their right, so the prophet said if you see that time, give them their right and take yours from them on the day of qiyaamah.
It has been narrated on the authority of Ibn 'Umar that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
It is obligatory upon a Muslim that he should listen (to the ruler appointed over him) and obey him whetherhe likes it or not, except that he is ordered to do a sinful thing. If he is ordered to do a sinful act, a Muslim should neither listen to him nor should he obey his orders.
Sahih Muslim 1839.
Alqamah bin Wa'il bin Hujr narrated from his father;
"I heard the Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) while a man was asking him: 'What do you see that we should do if there are leaders over us who deny our rights, while they seek theirrights?' So the Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) said: 'Listen and obey, for only they are responsible for their burdens, and only you are responsible for your burdens."'
