Guidelines To Intimacy In Islam
Episode 23
Jewelry and Make-up
Adornment and beautification can also entail the wife wearing gold, silver and other types of jewelry, and applying make-up to the face and applying lipstick. It better for her to apply henna to the hands and feet, and surma to the eyes if she so desires, since they have been specifically permitted through the Sunnah.
She should also adorn her hair by regularly combing, arranging and taking care of it. Dyeing the hair is also permitted provided the ingredients used in the dye are Halaal.
Can women cut their hair? The answer to this needs some explanation. Women can cut their hair as long as they don’t imitate the hairstyles of the Kuffaar and as long as they don’t imitate the hairstyles of men.
As far as shaving goes, that is an absolute no.
If a woman cuts her hair from the lower end, slightly, in order to equate the level of the hairs, then this will be permissible. If she cuts it from the front, then this too is permissible.
Manicures and pedicures are also allowed as long as they are done by other women. It is permitted for a wife to curl eyelashes and perm her hair for the husband on condition that it is water permeable (it can absorb water), does not contain Haram or impure elements.
According to the MJC, the Brazilian Blowout is also permissible because it does absorb water. It can be seen from the above that Islam generally does not lay too many restrictions when it comes to a woman adorning herself for her husband. After all, adornment is a means of both the husband and wife maintaining their chastity and staying away from the unlawful.
