Keeping Fit
Part of a woman's adornment for her husband is also keeping fit, in shape and healthy. The wife should look after her body-figure and maintain its beauty as much as possible. Not only will this be a means of her husband being attracted to her body, it will also help her remain healthy.
As far as going to a gym is concerned the following points must be borne in mind:
1. It is not permissible for women to go to a mixed gym where the rules of hijab and concealing oneself are not taken into consideration and where there is free intermingling of the sexes.
2. To go to a gym where there are Muslim and non Muslim women leads us to the issue of Hijab or pardah in front of Muslim and non-Muslim women.Bear in mind that the area below the navel and above the knees cannot be exposed in front of Muslim women. (Hidayah p.461 v.4)
3. As far as the non-Muslim Women are concerned, majority of the scholars say that her pardah is her whole body, except hand, face and feet.
4. Some scholars have also said that the pardah of the Muslim women in front of all women, be they Muslim or non-Muslim is the same. So Muslim women can go to an all female gym as long as they do not expose the area between her navel and her knee.
