FAJR REMINDER: THE SOUL OF A BELIEVER AT DEATH

Jumādā al-Ākhirah 12, 1447 (4-December-2025)
When a devout believer experiences the agony of death, he expresses gratitude to Allāh for it. Abū Hurayrah (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anhu) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Allāh says: ‘Verily, the believer is always in a good position with Me. He praises Me even as I remove his soul within himself.’” [Musnad Aḥmad 8492]
Good news for the believer! He receives assurance from the Angels of Mercy at the time of his passing. Allāh states: “Indeed, those who say, ‘Our Lord is Allāh Alone’ and stand firm (in obedience), the Angels descend upon him (at the time of death) saying, ‘Do not fear (i.e. over what is ahead of you) nor grieve (i.e. over what you are leaving behind of children, family, wealth, or debts because Allāh will take care of that). We bring you glad tidings of Jannah that you have been promised. We are your allies in the worldly life and in the Hereafter.’” [Sūrah Fussilat (41): 30-31]
More so, Al-Barā’ Ibn ‘Āzib (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anhu) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Verily, when the believer is ready to depart the world and is facing the Hereafter, angels from heaven descend with bright faces, as if their faces were the sun, with them are the shrouds and perfumes of Paradise, until they sit from him a distance as far as the eye can see. Then, the angel of death, upon him be peace, comes until he sits by his head and he says: O pure soul, come out to the Forgiveness of Allāh and His Pleasure! He takes it out like a drop from a water-skin and holds it, never to leave his hand for the blink of an eye until he places it in that shroud and perfume. The scent coming from it is more pleasant than any musk you would find on the face of the earth.” [Musnad Aḥmad 18534]
Allāh mentions: “By those (Angels) who gently take out (the souls of the believers).” [Sūrah An-Nāzi‘āt (79): 2]
This profound message reminds us of the goodness awaiting those who believe and perform good deeds at the moment of death and in the Hereafter.
I beseech Allāh to bless us with a peaceful death. Aameen.
