TAFSEER OF SUURAH AL-QADAR, (QUR’AN 97)

Alhamdulillah for granting us the opportunity to be part of this blessed month of the year. Let's continue with our Tafseer series. 


This surah was revealed in Makkah. It speaks about the greatness of Laylatul Qadr (The Night of Decree), the blessed night in which the Qur’an was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

ALLAH Azzawajal revealed this surah to show the Ummah the immense value of this one night in Ramadhan, especially because previous nations had long lifespans and could do more deeds. ALLAH Azzawajal compensated this Ummah with a night that equals more than 83 years of worship (1,000 months). Allahu Akbar. 

The Prophet ﷺ said regarding it (reported in Sahih al-Bukhari):

“Whoever stands in prayer on Laylatul Qadr with faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” Let's study the meaning of each verse. 

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

We begin in the name of ALLAH Azzawajal,  the most Gracious, the most Merciful. 

1. 

 إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ

Indeed, ALLAH sent it (the Qur’an) down during the Night of Decree. 

The Qur’an was sent down from Al-Lawh Al-Mahfuz (Preserved/Protected Location) to the lowest heaven on Laylatul Qadr, and then revealed gradually over 23 years.

👉 Ramadhan is the month of Qur’an because this was the night it began. To be continued In shaa ALLAH.

 *BEST TIME FOR TAHAJJUD* It is best to delay this prayer to the last third portion of the night. Abu Hurairah reports that the Messenger of Allah said: "Our Lord descends to the lowest heaven during the last third of the night, inquiring: 'Who will call on Me so that I may respond to him?
