*Episode 33: The Car*

Abdul-Hakeem was a good student. He was going to a secondary school far from his home. Everyday he went to school by bus and returned home the same way.

Abdul-Hakeem had several hobbies. One of them was cars. On the way to school, he could tell his friends the model and make of every car they saw on the road. He was a little sad, as his family didn't have a car. However, he never complained about this to happen is family, because he knew that they couldn't afford one. His father was a civil servant and barely earned enough to feed their family of four. It would be silly to ask for a car. It would also be unfair to ask more from his father who was doing his best for his family.

Abdul-Hakeem's friend Ahmad lived in the same neighbourhood. But he never took the bus to school. He always walked the long way there and back. Abdul-Hakeem couldn't understand why his friend did this.

One day, it was rainy and cold. Abdul-Hakeem was waiting at the bus stop with his friends. Ahmad passed by in front of them, ignoring the rain.

"Ahmad, the bus will be here soon. Why are you walking?" Abdul-Hakeem asked.

"Thank you but I have to stop by somewhere else first," he replied as he kept on walking.

The same event took place a few more times in the following days. Abdul-Hakeem started to wonder why Ahmad was not taking the bus. One day, he told his mother about this.

Abdul-Hakeem's mother knew Ahmad's family well. Ahmad's father had died a few years ago, leaving six children behind. His poor mother tried to earn money and feed his family by cleaning other people's houses. Ahmad couldn't take the bus simply because his family couldn't afford it.

Abdul-Hakeem felt sad and ashamed. He had wished for a car, but there were thousands of people living in the same city who didn't have enough money for food or didn't have a proper house to sleep in. He thanked Almighty Allāh for everything that he had.

If Abdul-Hakeem had heard the following Hadīth of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Blessings and Peace of Allāh be upon him) he would never have felt sad about not having a car:

انظر وا إلى من أسفل منكم ولا تنظروا إلى من هو فو قكم

رواه مسلم

*"You must compare yourself to those who are lower than you, not to those who are higher than you."*

*[Muslim]*

How Merciful is Almighty ALLĀH (Sub-haanahu wata'aala)! When you commit a sin, it’s recorded as one sin. If you intend to do a good deed but end up not doing it, it’s still recorded as one good deed. When you actually do it, it’s recorded as ten!

NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yawm Arba'a. 29th day of Shaw'waal, 1445AH (Wednesday 8th May 2024). *_NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH_*. BismilLah.  Even though feelings of Panic, stress/worries etc are part of life, they must not reduce our acts of worship or trust in ALLAH. The more a man turns to ALLAH and focuses on HIM, the more he will feel a sense of peace and comfort, to an extent that no one knows except ALLAH. Hence those who know ALLAH, are close to HIM and fear HIM are the happiest of people, to such an extent that one of them said, in a well-known expression: “If the kings and the sons of kings knew what joy we have, they would fight us for it with the sword.” This is also what is expressed in the Qur’an, as ALLAH says: “Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him ALLAH will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and ALLAH will ...
