*Fasting is Knocking*
[[---- Episode 21 ----]]
--------------------------------
بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم
It's expected that whoever wish to grab the full rewards and benefits of fasting in the month of Ramadan should observe fully the *"Ramadan’s ‘Not-to-do’ list* - some of which were already discussed in the previous episodes of this article
Now,
*Actions that can nullify or invalidate the Ramadan fast:*
*Nullifier No 4* - Letting blood by means of cupping
The Prophet (PBUH) said: *“The cupper and the one for whom cupping is done have both invalidated their fast.”* 📚Narrated by Abu Dawood, 2367; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 2047.
Now,
Donating blood comes under the same heading as cupping, because it affects the body in the same way.
Based on this,
It is not permissible for a person who is fasting to donate blood unless it is essential, in which case it is permissible. In that case the donor has broken his fast and must make up that day later on. 📚Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, Majaalis Shahr Ramadaan, p. 71
Also,
If a person suffers a nosebleed, his fast is valid, because that happened involuntarily. 📚Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, 10/264
Furthermore,
With regard to bleeding that results from extraction of a tooth, surgery or a blood test etc., that does not invalidate the fast because it is not cupping or something that is similar to cupping, unless it has an effect on the body similar to that of cupping.
Now,
All mentioned in the previous episodes of this article are things that invalidate the fast.. *All of them* – apart from menses and nifaas – Yes. Those things invalidate the fast if three (3) conditions are met: ▪️that the person was aware of the ruling and not ignorant of it; ▪️that he did it knowingly and not out of forgetfulness; and ▪️that he did it by choice and was not forced to do it.
*Things that do not invalidate the fast:*
The list below include things that people do during their fasting day and do not invalidate their acts of fasting.
1) Pouring water over oneself and submersing oneself in water:
Abu Bakr ibn
Abdurrahman reported from a number of companions that they had seen Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) pour water over his head while he was fasting due to thirst or extreme heat. 📚Related by Ahmad, Malik, and Abu Dawud with a authentic chain.
In the two Sahih of Al-Bukhari and Muslim, it is related from
A’ishah (r.a) that the Prophet (PBUH) would rise in the morning on a fasting day and then would perform Ghusl (a Purifactory Bath). If during the bath some water is swallowed UNINTENTIONALLY, the fast is still valid.
2) Applying kohl or eye drops or anything else to the eyes:
These acts are all permissible, even if some taste from it finds its way to the throat, as the eyes are not a passageway to the stomach.
3) ........
