The importance of fasting .
Alhamdulillah, fasting is one of the great act of worship.
Allah prescribed fasting for those before us.
Allah says,
O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed to those before you, so you may learn self restraint( taqwa)
Surah Baqarah 2;183.
Fasting is not only done in Ramadan but Ramadan is known to be the month of fasting because it is the month of Qur'an.
Allah says,
In the month of Ramadan did we send the Quran as a guidance and mercy so anyone who is at home and witness that month should fast.
Surah 2;186.
Fasting has many benefits and one Is grant us taqwa of Allah.
Fasting is of two types,
The fasting of the soul and the fasting of the body.
Fasting of the body is abstaining from food and drink and sexual intercourse from the time of dawn till the time the sun falls.
And fasting of the soul is to prevent one's self from getting closer to Haram like slandering, insulting, seeking haraam and the rest.
Fasting in Arabic is Sawm which means abstainance.
Fasting also makes us think of the poor and how they feel from hunger so as to help them too.
Fasting generates us and build our hormones and regenerates itself.
It is a remedy to other sickness in our cells and bodies.
May Allah make us witness the blessed month of Ramadan. Aamin
