Question asked does Islam allows keeping dogs?
Alhamdulillah, in Islam keeping dogs is haraam but allowed under some conditions.
But without any condition to take dogs as pet is haraam.
As reported in hadith,
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Whoever keeps a dog, one Qirat of the reward of his good deeds is deducteddaily, unless the dog is used for guarding a farm or cattle." Abu Huraira (in another narration) said from the Prophet, "unless it is used for guarding sheep or farms, or for hunting." Narrated Abu Hazim from Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "A dog for guarding cattle or for hunting."
Sahih al-Bukhari 2322.
Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "If someone keeps a dog neither for guarding livestock, nor for hunting, his good deeds will decrease (in reward) by two Qirats a day
Sahih al-Bukhari 5482.
So anyone who keeps a dog without any reason will have his reward reduce each day that is one qira'at and a qira'at like a mountain uhud.
