*IT IS HE (ALLĀH) WHO PREVENTS THEM FROM FIGHTING YOU*
When some imprudent and warmongering young men of Quraish found out that their leaders wish to make peace with Muslims, they thought of a scheme that would impede such a measure. They decided to set out at night and infiltrate into the camp of Muslims and stir up fight. They already carried out their decision. About eighty young men moved out at night, descended from the mountain of At-Tan'im and tried to infiltrate into the camp of Muslims. But they were arrested by Muhammad Ibn Maslamah who was the commander of the guards.
To show his desire for peace, the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) released and pardoned them all. Almighty Allāh says:
Surah Al-Fath, Verse 24:
And He it is Who has withheld their hands from you and your hands from them in the midst of Makkah, after He had made you victors over them. And Allah is Ever the All-Seer of what you do.
'UTHMĀN IBN AFFĀN IS SENT AS AN AMBASSADOR FOR QURAISH
At this moment the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) wanted to send an ambassador to Quraish to assert his stance and clarify his purpose of this journey. The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) asked 'Umar Ibnul-Khattāb to go to Quraish. But he apologised for not coming saying: "O Allāh's Messenger! None of Banu 'Adeyy Ibn Ka'ab in Mecca can defend me if I am exposed to any harm. Send 'Uthmān, for his clan lives there and he can convey your message safely." The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) called 'Uthmān and sent him to Quraish and said: "Tell them that we didn't come out to fight them but we set off to perform 'Umrah. And invite them to Islam." The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) ordered him also to give good tidings to the male and female Muslims who were there that Mecca would be conquered by Muslims and Allāh would make Islam spread in it.
'Uthmān set out and passed by some Quraishites at Baldah. They asked: "Where are you going to?" He said: "The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) sent me to say such and such." They said: "We have heard what you said. So go ahead with your task." Thereupon Abān Ibn Sa'īd Ibnul-Ass welcomed him and saddled his horse and made 'Uthmān ride behind him. He reached Mecca under his protection and conveyed the message to Quraish's leaders. They suggested that he should circumambulate the Ka'abah but he refused to do so before the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him).
THE RUMOUR OF KILLING 'UTHMĀN IBN AFFĀN AND THE ALLEGIANCE OF AR-RADWĀN
Quraishites kept 'Uthmān to stay in Mecca for some days to consult with each other about the status quo and send back him with a final reply to his message. 'Uthmān's stay lasted long and Muslims thought that he had been killed. The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) said: "We will not depart away till we have battled against Quraish." Then he called upon his Companions to pledge allegiance. Some of them pledged to him not to flee away and others pledged him to fight to death. The first one to pledge allegiance to the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) was Abu Sinān Al-Asady. Also Salamah Ibnul-Akwa' pledged the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) to fight to death three times. The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) stretched out his hand and said: "This is for 'Uthmān." After the pledge of allegiance, 'Uthmān came out and gave the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) his pledge of allegiance. There was one man who gave no pledge of allegiance. He was called Jadd Ibn Qais.
The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) was given the pledge of allegiance under a tree, and 'Umar was taking hold of his hand and Ma'qil Ibn Yasār was keeping the branch of the tree away from the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him). This was Ar-Radwān pledge of allegiance about which Almighty Allāh says:
Surah Al-Fath, Verse 18:
Indeed, Allah was pleased with the believers when they gave their Bai'a (pledge) to you (O Muhammad [Blessings and Peace be upon him]) under the tree, He knew what was in their hearts, and He sent down As-Sakinah (calmness and tranquillity) upon them, and He rewarded them with a near victory,

*"And keep reminding, because reminding benefits the believers."* (Qur-ān 51:55)
